The Dumbest Thing Christians Say
What is the dumbest thing you think it is that Christians say? I'm not thinking of specific quotes, but share them if you desire, but more specifically cliches or sayings that are common in Christianity or simply in the segment of Pentecost.
To me this is the dumbest thing I hear Christians say
"It's just the devil"
I preached on this recently, and driving down the road today, listening to a station here in D/FW, hear a minister say it on the radio.
Something along the lines of "all that trouble, all that misery in your life, IT'S JUST THE DEVIL! But if you come this Sunday morning I've got the word of life for you in my mouth." Sorry, thats as far as I got with all that.
It's not the devil. Blaming everything on the devil is just a lazy excuse, it takes the glory and soveignty away from God, and gives the devil power over our lives he does not posess.
The devil didn't make the electric company shut off your lights, the devil didn't make you lose your job, the devil isn't causing your marriage to fail, the devil isn't causing your flat tires or your headaches. The devil didn't even give you a terminal disease.
When I hear "its just the devil" the first thing that comes to my mind is "shut up."
Now, to clarify I am not talking about satan opposing God's work, because he clearly is in opposition to the church, but I am talking about the mindset that some christians have that satan is basically soverign over their lives, and every bad break comes directly from the pit of hell specific to them.
The devil DIDN'T make you do it, and he didn't do it to you either. Grow up, look in the mirror, and get on with your walk with God, in whose hand you are in, and whom no one can snatch you out of. Why live life in fear or anxiety over the devil?
My two cents....hopefully I didn't offend anyone, and I don't end up in the offensive post thread.
