Burning at the Stake
I read an article about burning at the stake concering heretics in medieval times an how they were treated.
It seems most were given a chance to "recant" or repent of their beliefs before sentence was pronounced. It also seems like the people who instituted this sentence in relation to Christianity were most likely trying to show the unrecanted heretic what the unquenchable fires of hell would feel like due to their beliefs.
WHat do you think about this time period and the persecution of those who did not believe according to the Orthodox church?
Do you think there were many who had certain "revelations" but at the end, recanted because they were afraid to be killed?
Most of all, would you have been one that would have believed what you view and experienced this death? Or would you have recanted in hopes of secretly believing what you believed to be truth?
