Fingernail Commandment

As far as I know there is no doctrine concerning fingernails (other then not painting them), but what if there was?

What doctrine can you come up with, using scripture to determine what a saint should do with their fingernails?

Is trimming them the same as pulling them off?
Is it ok to put small pictures on them, or is that adornment? Are men to keep theirs short, below the end of the finger?
And is a man more spiritual if he files them down, rather than cutting?

What about cuticles? how do they play in to this???

This should be fun

Re: Fingernail Commandment

Deut 21:12Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

This was about captive women being taken as wives. Since Apostolics do not want to be identified with slavery or mourning, and since Apostolic women are never to cut their hair due to the fact that it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven (see 1 Cor 11), it is obvious by this verse that they should never cut their nails either.

However, in today's society, long nails are a sign of vanity. Therefore, filing is acceptable, but again, per the verse above, not cutting. Further, since most fake nails are over 1/8" long (past the quick), Apostolic nails on women should be kept to a length below 1/8" in order to avoid worldliness. To distinguish the sexes, men's nails must be kept less than 1/16"; however, 1/16" shall be allowable because it's easier to pick up things with a bit of a nail, and scratching is made easier as well. Therefore, 1/16" or less on a man is considered "functional nail growth" and is therefore acceptable.

Re: Fingernail Commandment

There SHOULD be a doctrine against clipping fingernails during a sermon!!!!

I've always been glad that Apostle Paul didn't say - "Everyone knows that women have long fingernails, and men don't." Then we wouldn't be allowed to file and shape our nails. Long would equal uncut.

Fingernails are composed of the same protein (keratin) as the hair. Apostolic women must refrain from cutting ALL keratin.

Leviticus 19:28, states that there is to be no "cutting of the flesh" (the outer layer of skin is also keratin). If you're not supposed to cut the keratin on your scalp nor the keratin on your skin, then it's just good Bible to say don't cut any keratin at all. Of course this rather onerous burden is to borne by our wimmin' folk only.

I discern that you have a bad attitude.

Re: Fingernail Commandment

I bit my nails for years. I don't now, but mine grow very fast. I clip and file them.
