NFL "Hit Crisis"?

I enjoy watching MSNBC for several reasons. Probably the #1 reason is the hilarious spin on the news they offer. At home for a minutes this afternoon I turned on the "Dylan Ratigan Show". He did a segment on the "hit crisis" in football, the NFL and College Football in particular. The conversation with the "expert" was about the hits football players are sustaining and the long term effects they have on their brain.....

As if getting hit in football is something new and that old retired football players have long term health problems is a new development. They talked about "doing something" about this "crisis".

Hey, I know! Let's have Congress hold hearings, pass legislation and the Feds can take over the NFL! Maybe they could impose flag football or two-hand touch. And instead of Super Bowl Champions they could issue participation trophies for everyone! That way no one is considered a loser. You know that has to have long term psychological effects on those old players too. Maybe they can address the "Losing Crisis" in the NFL! More players than not have to battle the blow to the ego that losing affords...

Then maybe they can address the "bruised shin crisis" in soccer...

Liberals...(Sigh)

They need to socialize the sport and take turns winning.

Re: NFL "Hit Crisis"?

I read yesterday about the worry of more head shots, or helmet to helmet. Rattling the brains, like boxing or any other violent "sport". I am very opposed to pro sports.

If congress gets involved, it will end up touch football or flag football!

Re: NFL "Hit Crisis"?

Congress needs to stick to politics and not use sports as an excuse to divert attention away from their ineptness at running a government.

However I do think the intentional inclination to try to hurt someone via a direct head to head hit is bad news
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/n...culture-101910

However maybe sports can solve a lot of our crime problem if we give all the thugs the chance to legally commit assault with the intent to do great bodily harm they won't be such a problem for society in generally. Sadly I believe a lot of the NFL would be in prison right now if they didn't have the avenue of sports to turn to because they are essentially thugs that found a better way to vent their violent temper so America can be entertained

Re: NFL "Hit Crisis"?

They need to get real jobs, and work for a living. Instead of society paying them for playing.

Are we discussing second generation ministers taking their dads churches or football?

Re: NFL "Hit Crisis"?

I think what the NFL is proposing in this is going to be very difficult to enforce.

Most of the brain rattling hits are not done witht the intent to really cause long-lasting damage. Getting hit is in the nature of the game.

Re: NFL "Hit Crisis"?

Bigger, stronger, faster men trying to "hit" as opposed to tackle is a big part of the problem. Also the helmets they use need to be redesigned in my opinion. I like what coach Ditka was saying about how much of a weapon these heavier helmets have become. He suggested they take those great big facemasks off...thay would make guys think twice about using their heads as a battering ram.
