what is this called in English
In Brazil when our tires get slick we take them and have them "remarked". On our new to us (used) van I had that done before we left on this trip but the tire guy showed me where it did not have rubber in a few places...but we did it anyway...
Do we do things like this in the states? if so what is it called? Sometimes I want to explain our ways over here but I have lived here so long I do not think I am even American anymore....lol...
yesterday a rock tore into one of the tires up here in jungle land....I don't even think it was a road we were trying to go over to start with....ha...

Re: what is this called in Engish
each tire on our van cost 650 DOLLARS....things are so expensive in Brazil....May the Lord help us....and that is not the best brand! tires for our son's truck are smaller so they are some cheaper.

Re: what is this called in Engish
I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. If you are referring to the practice of binding new rubber to the base of a bald tire, it's called retreading here. As far as I know, retreading was outlawed in the 80's because the binding often didnt hold. This caused retreaded tires to peel on the highways, damaging other vehicles and causing accidents when cars swerve to dodge these massive chunks of flying rubber.

Re: what is this called in Engish
Wow! I just had four new tires put on Zac's car this week, and griped because it cost me over $300! I can't imagine having to pay what you do.

Retreads were dangerous
