Alyssa Thomas, 6, was traveling with her parents when a ticket agent notified the family she was on the list of restricted fliers.
When the family tried to clear up the issue with Homeland Security, they received a letter notifying them that it could not be changed.

I doubt the little girl is the same individual as the one on the list. They don't say anything about the "real" people on the list so it's almost impossible to identify who they're really looking for. It's just a list of names. If you share the same name as someone on the list - be prepared for a longer wait.

I've seen other articles about people who get caught up in this thing and there's actually a document that is issued to help speed the innocent through the check in process.
It does involve an extra bit of paperwork and hassle. But I sleep better on the plane knowing that no six year old is going to bring us down.
Except that one time I fell asleep on a plane and was almost eaten by the langoliers. That was creepy.
I work in Aviation Security. There is obviously someone with the same name that is connected to terrorism in some way. The TSA cannot remove that name from the list. However, typically they can verify a person's identity with proper documentation and procedures.
