My DIL, her grandmother, mother and sister all drove down to New Orleans for a few days vacation on Monday.
They were making their way back home yesterday when their car broke down in a small town in Mississippi. The sheriff happened to be at the gas station and got a buddy to look at it - he couldn't get it started. So, the buddy will be looking at it today at his shop.
Well, my DIL has a doctor's appt today and needed to get back home. The sheriff said he had an extra car at home that he doesn't need so he let them use it and drive on home last night.
Things like this would only happen in the south!

Yup. Only in the South. Nice sheriff! Of course in small MS town they are either nice like that or they make yankees and other outsiders disappear into some swamp. Nice of them too feed the alligators.

Several years ago my wife and I spent several days in Nashville, TN. We did Opryland, the Grand Old Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, Andrew Jackson's mansion, Twitty City, etc. --you know, typical tourist stuff. We were very impressed by the friendliness of everyone we came in contact with. Some times teenagers working in business places around here can be pretty surly and treat customers like they are an inconvenient intrusion on their personal time and space. Well, it was completely different in Nashville. I'm sure those kids working there weren't making big money and the weather was unseasonably hot that year but we were treated courteously, respectfully, and in a genuinely helpful and friendly manner. Several times we just looked at each other and commented on how different that attitude was "down South".
A few years ago my daughter and her boyfriend (now husband) had a wreck near Sikeston, MO. It took a while for his parents to drive from St. Louis and me to drive from Memphis to get to them.
The doctor that attended to them in the ER took them to his house to wait for us to arrive.
I was even blown away by that gesture.

Our car broke down in the middle of nowhere on vacation, once. Guy in a pickup stopped to help, gave me a ride to the nearest town. I arranged for a tow, and the little town's only mechanic didn't have a part we needed - brushes for the starter motor. So he made them! Reshaped some from another starter to fit ours. Charged us like $20, and we were on our way. And it was on a Sunday.
Guess where this happened!

Forgot to mention, while the car was in the shop, the wife and kids stayed at the tow truck driver's house and enjoyed their hospitality. Another clue? The pickup guy that gave me a ride offered me some of his Jack Daniels.
