The whole body massage
Maybe this has been discussed before! If it has I apologize! Is it scriptural or/and necessary for the whole chuch to come "pray you through"??! And most of us on the forum know what I am referring to! The whole body massage, the screaming, the coaching, etc....!! The Bible says work out your own souls salvation! Plus I may need to repent of some things I dont want 200 people to hear!!

Re: The whole body massage
LOL Renda, that answers a lot.
Allstate, no it isn't necessary, and yes you're right. Find one verse in the whole Bible where the phrase "prayed them through" is even used. Most of the time the Holy Ghost just fell on believers or the apostles came and laid hands on them. (but not the entire group of believers assembled, and not all 12 apostles at once!) No one in the Bible sought the Holy Ghost, other than the 120 in the upper room tarrying for the promise, either. Once the Holy Ghost was poured out initially (in God's perfect timing, NOT when they had "repented enough") there is never another mention of people praying long hours tearfully begging for the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the free gift of God.
As for the massages... if a preacher preaches that a certain female body part should be clothed (should not be seen) he shouldn't be touching it either, even in his zeal for praying them through. (I've seen it happen, just wanted to add it here.)

I think all that crowding around and pressuring someone to speak in tongues just encourages them to fake it and possibly miss ever receiving anything from God. I wouldn't even want to share a prayer request if "that" was going to happen to me.

What about in Acts 8? Were they not seeking to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

by "pray you through" you meant a saint wanting to confess their sins during an alter call? Is that biblical?
Have we become like the catholics that we have to wait for a church service to tell God what sins we have done?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.
