Parts of it are safe. The island is probably the Cayes (forgot the first name). It's pretty touristy, so it's probably safer than where we are. I wouldn't walk anywhere at night here. There is a big drug culture, from what I've heard and lots of crime.
But, on a good note, it's beautiful country. We are right on the water, but nowhere near a beach, so I haven't seen the beaches yet. They're supposed to be very pretty. You just have to take lots of precautions in a place like this. I'm leaving my ring in the safe, for example.
