Oil Spill in the Gulf

As it seems that the oil spill in the Gulf is worse than originally thought, do you all think this will have any significant impact on the debate about offshore drilling? Will it push those moderate politicians and citizens who are not passionate either way. to sway towards not allowing drilling?

...and does anyone suspect sabotage?

Re: Oil Spill in the Gulf

The oil rig my son is on was within eyesight of the one that exploded and sank. My son was home at the time but yesterday was back on his rig. I am waiting for him to send me a message as to what the oil spill looks like from his rig.

Re: Oil Spill in the Gulf

My son is on a very similar rig and he told me that the only way a blowout can escalate to an explosion like that is if someone was not paying attention or did not follow procedures when the event occurred.

They take incredbile precautions on these newer big state of the art rigs. To the point my son hates his job on his. He much preferred the older small jack up rig he used to be on.

I Googled and found the transcript for this. It was a caller who asked the question. Rush ended by offering that "because there is no proof" the rumors were bound to swirl. He came back from a break and shared the first reports of SWAT teams being sent out to all the oil rigs.

The President has sent "SWAT teams" to all oil rigs to inspect them for bombs and other possible signs of tampering or sabotage.

Apparently Obama takes the "rumors" more seriously than even Rush has. The explosion did occur on "Earth Day."

An explosion of that magnitude - enough to sink one of the largest oil platforms in the world; one of the largest floating structures of any kind in the world would have had to have involved the build up of gasses from the well itself or a catastrophic explosion of the rig's own fuel storage tanks.

And, this was a newer rig too.

I read that also, but it was Rush who was just "noting the timing". I mean, he did say, "What better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig?"

I would think any Presidency would want to send government officials to inspect a catastrophe of this magnitude.
