Peace @ AFF

As my students prepare with a few pre-reading assignments in preparation to reading a novel about an utopian society next week, our journal prompt yesterday read: "What must we give up to live in peace?".

Answers ranged from no fighting, no cussin', no shanking, no poverty, no greed, no weapons, more weapons, no thinking, limiting freedoms of speech and press, etc.

It made for great discussion with me in my favorite role, playing devil's adovocate, challenging them to clarify, expand and justify their responses.

Upon reflection this morning, I think about the social dynamics, unique individual quirks, historical events that have transpired and the cycles of the AFF community and I pose the same question.

In this microcosm of Apostolic diversity:

What must we give up to live in peace @ AFF?

If possible, keep your list to 3-5 items.

Ms Renda Craig, those are great guiding principles.

How can you frame your answer so that it answers the question: What must we give up?

Also, what happens when one feels disrespected because a position one possesses is The Word of God, or that His Word has been violated or disrespected?

We must give up...

1. The concept that I cannot abide you if you do not hold my exact interpretation of scripture.
2. Once right always right.
3. Defining the word per our own traditions.
4. Being the devils advocate.

What must we give up?

1. Being disrespectful
2. Being disrespecful
3. Being disrespecful

If everyone respects each other there would be less "preconceived disrespect"!

A good book I am reading says it like this.

Gal 5:14 For ALL the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

It appears that being respectful fulfills it all.

Can you expand on one or two of these Digging?

Preconceived disrespect? Elaborate.

Re: Peace @ AFF

Are you kidding?

When the Spirit of God comes it comes with division against the carnal understanding of what men perceive to be peace. Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, not as the world gives I leave with you." This peace is not worldly, but a peace that bridges the gap between a Just God and man. Hence, "For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ."

What must we do to live in peace?

Repent
Shake off pride
Repent some more
Confess your fault one to another

Re: Peace @ AFF

I have heard the remark that we should purge the "fringe" of this communtiy to secure peace or at least a more perfect union ... those that don't share our basic common values like the atheists, agnostics, muslims, non-pentecostals?

*cough, cough, TIMMY*

Is this on anyone's list?
