Obama's Noble Peace Prize Acceptance Speech

Kudos to our President for speaking the truth to an audience probably not too happy that he made the case for "just war" as he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize. Newt Gingrich called the speech "historic". The President talked about the necessity of war and that sometimes use of force is morally justified. He spoke of America's commitment to world peace by spilling the blood of its sons and daughters for past six decades. He spoke of evil existing in the world and that non-violence and pacifism cannot defeat such. He said a non-violent movement could not have defeated Hitler's armies. Negotiations cannot convice Al-Qaeda to lay down their arms. He said to say that force may sometimes be necessary is not a call to cynicism--it is a recognition of history.

Proud of President Obama for making no apologies for the wars we are engaged in now and not repenting for America's role in maintaining stability around the world with a strong military and a willingness to pay with time, talent and treasure to keep the world safe from tyrants!

He had to make up for the awful speech he made at the enemy camp (West Point).

This was his best speech, especially on foreign soil.

Glad to see you are not as one-sided as I thought you were. Kudos for non-partisanship. Now if PO would chime in with a positive note, that would make it a merry season indeed.

Not being a BHO supporter, and not agreeing with pretty much everything he's done to now ... I was very surprised to read the transcript of his Nobel acceptance speech. It was a complete 180 from what he's said and done previously. Here he finally stood up for American, instead of apologizing and bowing to foreign leaders. If asked what I thought the speech would be, beforehand, I would've said likely more of the same... I was wrong.

This may well be the only time this happens ... Kuddos, Mr President, for delivering a great speech. Let's hope these words aren't just empty rhetoric, but they frame the future foreign policy for this administration.

I raise this point, I begin with this point because in many countries there is a deep ambivalence about military action today, no matter what the cause. And at times, this is joined by a reflexive suspicion of America, the world's sole military superpower.

But the world must remember that it was not simply international institutions -- not just treaties and declarations -- that brought stability to a post-World War II world. Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest -- because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if others' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity.

I don't believe GWB could've said it any better!

We are reasonable people and will compliment when it is deserved. When it's not, well...........

Deacon, I'm not an Obama supporter either, but this was by far his best speech.

What he said was powerful, but even more powerful when you consider his audience and location at the time.

I think I might just go out and get a picture of our President for my desk, with one of the quotes from his speech-- after I read it myself.

I am so glad, so very glad, to hear that he spoke like this-- so truthfully about America's POSTIVE influence on our world!
