Leaving to Drive in the Mountains of Guatemala

I'll be driving alone in the Guatemala department of Huehuetenango for the next seven days, the highest mountains in Central America. Prayers for safety are appreciated.

It's going to be a blast!

Adios!

Sorry, I didn't see this when you first posted it on the 8th. Praying for your continued safety.

Your website needs more pictures!!!

My late uncle became a Roman Catholic Marynoll (sp?) missionary to Guatamala and married a native, my aunt, Pakita. What is the dominant religion of Guatamala? And are there many apostolics? Where and with whom do you worship?

Re: Leaving to Drive in the Mountains of Guatemala

Came home a day early to deal with Montezuma's revenge on the home front!

Mizpeh, thanks for looking at the site. It's still young but more pics will be coming soon.

Guatemala is mostly Catholic with lots of evangelical churches. Evangelical here is basically everyone except catholic...lots of praise and worship type churches here. Here, you're either Christian or Catholic. Everyone, even the Catholics, make this distinction

The UPCI work is large here, about 2-300 churches in the country (not sure of the exact number) with about 40 of those in the capital. We go to a UPCI church in the capital.

I don't think the ALJC has any missionaries here. I did see 2 Apostolic Assembly (AAFCJ) churches in my travels in the mountains but they were closed when I passed. Not sure of the extent of their mission in Guatemala as it's been a few years since I've had much contact with them. There are probably more oneness works here that are independent, I just haven't run across them yet.
