wrote this last night for you folks
The helicopters have flown over our homes and church for the last 2 hours. The military police have threatened to take over our state as our politicians are so corrupt. The community boys thought it is neat they were shinning there spotlights on them but in reality they were looking for the evil and the dangerous.
We had a beautiful sign language choir practice! I wept to see what my class had learned in the month I was away. What sweet kids I have in my class. They were someone else’s terror but they are my blessing. I love them so much.
And my helpers Brother Cristiano and Sister Ibla have really become helpers. They already have the church decorated for service Sunday and our convention next week. We have 12 flower arrangements and they took them all apart and cleaned flower by flower. What patience and what love! Since little birdies tell secrets I know that the table of showbread furniture piece is ready for me to see. They all know I have a passion for our Hebrew roots. Last year they gave me the candlestick.
Three from my class started a little radio program at our village radio station! I tell you these kids are willing workers.
My best helper my daughter in law Gilene will be moving to the jungle sometime after convention. We will really miss her but I see several others that in time can fill her shoes as she does a more important work in the jungle with our son and their children. We are really proud of the step they have taken by faith with very little promised support but a great big God that has promised to take care of us.
Amy is busy getting things together for our vacation Bible school that will take place in Oct. You see we have to translate the booklets we are using, the songs, the plays and everything. It is months of work and hard labor. We still need about 700 dollars Amy informed me for the work material we buy here in Brazil. So if you should feel to help it would be deeply appreciated.
We still desperately need help to pay off the 7000 that it is costing to fix our church bus. Most of you know we had to but a new motor in it, buy a block, put a new starter in it and several other things but once we get this done it should be ready to roll for a few years with only minor repair.
The brothers got the foundation completely finished for our new Murice church. We are building it by faith! No one has promised to help but it has to be done and we took this step by faith.
Everyone is so excited about the upcoming convention. The work has grown so much. We have some coming from 5 other states.
God is moving in a great way. As soon as convention is over it is a national holiday and we are taking our people on a camping trip for 2 days. These trips provide times of teaching and rest for our people. We will also pray all night one of the nights seeking God to help us reach this vast land. We know it is not by might but it is by His spirit that we will go forth and conquer for Jesus.
Thanks for being one of our supporters,
In His service:
The Raul Alvear family

Sis. Alvear,
Thank-you for keeping this mission field ever before us...I know it is your heart. The praying will not stop, and the finances will come...

That is just what I was talking to my son in law about late last night. We need to be before the people so they know we exist and are real people for prayers to go up for us. Sometimes people get the false impression about missionaries that we are some sort of a steel person floating around telling people about Jesus. They forget we are just mere humans with faults and failures that often get tired and weary on life's battlefield.
Our daily contact with the dark evil forces of devil worship call for extra strength and that can only come through the prayers and fastings of God's children on our behalf.
The devil hates each believer but especially hates missionaries for we have come to "his sinister kingdom" where he is prince. However as others pray and help us we see darkness fade at the mention of our Lord's dear name for greater is He that is in us than he who is in the world.
Today is a great day for Brazil and the gospel...Oh, for another life to give on the mission field! Thank you my friend for your prayers. We too pray for our homeland brothers and sisters!
