With the Alvears in Brazil
I got in late last night, and they were at the airport to meet me- along with their son Michael and two of their grandsons. We had delicious soup sometime after midnight, and some passion fruit pudding, on the porch of their house. It was so good!! I finally crashed but they were all up until about 3 am. I have decided I´m not enough of a party person to live in Brazil!! At least not in this household.
Today, they took me to see some of their chuches, and we got to visit in the homes of some of their precious saints. I was so humbled to be able to eat some fresh pineapple drizzled with Eagle Brand in one of their houses. Yumm!! I saw the very best and the very worst of Maceio - unbelievable exremes. Lots of great pictures! We ate lunch in a great restaurant on the beach - fried shrimp that was amazing.
Tonight we´re having traditional Brazilian food, something with black beans that I requested actually - their national dish. Can´t wait! Then church in one of their daughter works in a farming community tonight. Tomorrow night is the singing at the big church here. That will be fun, even though I don~´t understand the language.
The Alvears are amazing people. I have tried and tried to bless them, but they have insisted on blessing me and have treated me like royalty. There was even a huge banner on their church outside wall welcoming me!!

You can't help but to have a great time with these folks! Purer hearted Christians you'll be hard pressed to find.....but you already know that. I'm looking forward to a visit sometime with Diane as well. Please give both of them a big MOW hug!

We are just so blessed that you chose to visit us instead of visiting some of the most amazing sightseeing places in Brazil...
Thank you for going out of your way and YOU spending huge money to fly up here to no man´s land...

Re: With the Alvears in Brazil
Last night we did church way out in the boonies somewhere. After traveling on a major road for about a half hour or so, we turned off for six miles on a dirt road through sugar cane fields to get to this church, which was held outdoors. There were about a hundred people there and it was SO sweet!
Only after we were on the road did they inform me that it was one of the most dangerous places in the whole area for bandits and killings. I told them I felt like a real missionary last night!! Also we were in a big bus that had to cross a little slatted bridge with only two wheels on the road at a time. I am prayed up now, for sure! Actually it was an amazing experience - one I will never forget.
For dinner, the women fixed me something that I think is called Feijuada - I had been wanting to try it ever since I have been reading about Brazil. It´s black beans and sausage and whatever else kind of meat they want to throw in there. The real true Brazilians throw in things like pig´s feet or pig´s ears, but I requested only things I could recognize. LOL! You eat it over white rice with chopped kale (which is "sukima wiki" in Kenya that I love!!) and a sort of pico de gallo. I ate way too much, but it was awesome!
What a great place and wonderful people! They love to kiss and hug and just make me feel so loved. I definitely want to come back someday.

Re: With the Alvears in Brazil
Your experience there has been just what I expected to hear about - does my soul good to read of the ministry to people's needs and sharing what God has given. Thanks for letting us "visit" with you and the Alvears. Be safe -
