Who Here Grows All/Some Of Their Own Food In Gardens?

I buy my food at Super Walmart and Kroger. No growing for me!! I wouldn't have a clue how to do that.

How 'bout this "short list" of home grown veggies?

carrots
onions
corn
radishes
lettuce
cabbage
peas
tomatoes
beets
cucumbers
potatoes

And even more that I can't recall right now? Absolutely nothing in them tin cans from Krogers can match the mouth-watering taste of these!

Matter of fact! This reminds me..... its time to drag out the old roto-tiller and get that plot ready once again. Raisin' one's own veggies ain't hard... just a little work every couple of days hoeing, weeding, etc.. and, oh yes! Lots of patience and prayer helps tremendously. Sort of like planting the "seed" of the Word of God..... we plant it, and maintain care to see that it is properly cared for, and then God does the rest.

Last year I did tomatoes, greens, okra, purple hull peas, cantalupe, yellow crooked neck squash, strawberries and bell peppers, yellow, red and green.

It costs more to water a huge garden than to buy the vegetables. We only grow tomatoes and peppers.

I started my own garden this year...so we shall see.

yeah, but it tastes so much better...and it's good for you to do the work and eat them

That might be true when one gets their water via municipal water systems. As for me, I have 2 wells....1 for the house and 1 for my lawn sprinkler system and the garden. The only costs involved is the electricity. And.... the difference in the taste between canned vegatables and home-grown cannot, for me, cannot be equated to a cost factor.

Oh yea! I know.... but it cost a lot of money to have a well drilled, right? That's only partly true, because after 24 years it is still working just as it was the very first day. And I sorta figured it has paid for itself by now!

All this is thinking about home-grown veggies is making me impatient for some of them home-grown potatoes, green beans and corn bread!
