3 Changes That Immediately Lower Healthcare Costs
1. Require price listing.
This isn't hard to understand. If drug stores, hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, et al were forced to list the prices of of their drugs, procedures, tests, and exams the prices would drop overnight. Florida has recently required drug stores to list the prices of their drugs online. The result? People chose the cheaper prices! Wow! Mind boggling! Prices began to decline almost overnight.
2. Allow health insurance companies cross state lines.
If done, small businesses would have 335 insurance companies to choose from. Individuals would have thousands to choose from. Competition would drive down costs. Why can't health insurance work like life insurance, car insurance, homeowners insurance? It could!
3. Reform Medicare.
An estimated $70-120 billion is unnecessarily wasted from Medicare alone. How you might ask? Simple. Fraud. Remember the stories of the military purchasing $300 hammers and $65 bolts? Same principle here. Companies tell patients "This electric cart won't cost you anything! Medicare will take care of it!" The corruption and overpricing of Medicare is out of control. Medicare needs major reform.
These 3 changes would alter the landscape without creating another huge government bereaucracy and tanking the economy in the process.
