Youth Leader arrested

Youth Leader was arrested a couple days ago for having sex with a 14 year old girl multiple times.

Very sad times for the church involved.

I find his defense of the situation laughable. I only admitted to it to get off the phone with her.

I have heard more ridiculous justifications than that...It is sad for the victims and for the perps...line 'em up and shoot 'um.

I'm sorry, but I really don't consider this girl a victim - she snuck out of the house to go be with him - it's not like he forced her. She needs help too.

Renda,

The reason the law is set up the way it is is based on developmental Psychology. There are different stages of growth and development that occur as we age. A 14 year old girl is not capable of the reasoning it would take to make a good decision for herself. That is why they call it statutory rape [If the person is an adult 18 or over] and it is called pedophelia if there is a 4 year difference and the victim is a child [also called molestation].

You have to understand that perpetrators of sexual crimes such as these "GROOM" their victims into thinking they were a willing participant by buying them gifts, paying special attention to them. They go out of their way to find out what they need, whether an ear to listen, a gift of some sort, or affirmation. They also use words to lead on or put ideas into their mind because they are easily lead or influenced.

When there is a discrepancy in power such as this particular case of being Youth Pastor this is especially heinous because this is predatory and listed as sexual harrassment.

Again, the reason the laws are in place is because children under the age of 18, 16 in some cases are not able to make decisions in their best interest. This is a sexual crime with multiple applications.

Sincerely, Rhoni

Yes, I realize that.

Re: Youth Leader arrested

There are also 25 year olds that aren't capable of making mature decisions either, doesn't always make them a perp - just makes them stupid because they think with only ONE part of their body.

I understand your reasoning but the law is there for protection of those who cannot protect themselves. Even though there are some adults who cannot make good decisions for themselves whether through lack of teaching, low IQ, or other reasons...the fact remains that a normal adult learns to process differently than a child.

Anyone who would have sex with a minor has major issues that need to be addressed. They need to suffer the consequences of their behaviors through legal means, and they need counseling, accountability people, and yes, monitors that would watch to protect other from victimization by this perpetrator.

When you molest, have sex with a child, whether presumeably willing or not..the responsibility lies on the shoulders of the adult. The quaility of life for the victim has been altered forever and only the grace of God and counseling, counseling, and more counseling only begins the healing process.

Blessings, Rhoni

That is no justification for molestation. Men and women alike need to control their passions instead of their passions controlling them. That is why we have rules, laws, and God.
