Got a friend that I'd like to send over to Bro. Huntley's church in Raleigh, NC (The Temple Of Pentecost) and just want some general information on him, his church, preaching style, choir etc etc if anyone out there has it. Is this a conservative congregation etc. Let me know what you know.

Hey PraiseHymn, Brother Huntley's church would be very close in everything (doctrine, preaching but just a tad more aggressive than Brother Johns, worship/praise, choir) to AWPC. If you want this friend to go to a church like yours - this would be the one. I preached there years ago. He is a great expository preacher and has a conservative congregation. They are good people - just like the Johns. You will not go wrong with sending them there if you want something like AWPC. I don't really know the black/white ratio there - but I would think all people would be welcome.
I think it was Wayne Huntley that I heard say that he didn't try to convert people all at once to the UPC doctrine. He said that sometimes they aren't truly converted for 10 or 15 years and that they aren't really converts until they believe WE (the UPC) are right and everybody else is wrong.
In the same message he also said that he doesn't want his whole church to follow standards either because he needs some decoys so that those they are trying to convert don't feel out of place.
It was the first time I ever heard someone admit what I had seen for a long time in the UPC and that is that the true beliefs are hidden until they feel like they can ease them in and convert after the person has made friends and feels more pressure from the group to conform.

Greek word for this paraphrase, my friend Delta, "bologna."
"decoys?" "We (meaning UPC)?" Sounds more like Delta than WH

Brother Huntley goes to lengths when he preaches on the road to describe himself as a "Progressive" Pentecostal/Apostolic. What he means by "Progressive" however, isn't the same as the way the term is used in US political discourse.
His idea is that we all "progress" and grow in the Lord and thus we should be willing to give others a bit of a break whenever their "standards" or "experience" doesn't quite measure up to ours. That's my summation of one of his many explanations that I've heard over the years and not his own words exactly.
I was in a meeting a few years ago when he used the phrase "long nosed Jews..." and emphasized the point by running his own finger down the length of his nose. There were at least two Jewish converts to OP in the audience that day. The context for Huntley remarks were the words of another preacher in the audience. Huntley tried to show his support for this man who had made some public anti-Semitic remarks earlier.
Basically, it was: "Look out for those long nosed Jews who will criticize you..." Words to that effect. I was very disappoint with Bother Huntley that day.
On the so-called "con vs. lib" divide as it exists within the UPC, Huntley has positioned himself to be a bit more "moderate" than his neighbor Johnny Godair. The two were seen as close rivals for the NC district crown. When Huntley won out, Godair left the org. Though, we are assured, those two events had nothing to do with one another.

I can't stand when we go to these depths, and find remarks from our memory on forums like this to denigrate a man, basically implying that he is a racist. Does Phil 4:8 mean anything??
Just recommend him or don't recommend to the original poster. But to take your liberties, like many did with Tim McCary, and pummel him with accusations doesn't seem right.

You can purchase the DVD or CD from the Pentecostals of West Monroe's week of Anointing. I think it was 2007 but possibly 2008.
He was basically trying to teach that it is ok for the UPC to appear moderate but that over the long haul we would get people to believe like us. He was trying to show that the more conservative brothers should not criticize the brothers who used more wisdom in the conversion process.
This is what the man said. I will try to find the cd tonight and post it on here.
Look, if you are UPC and agree with the UPC's beliefs you would do good to go to his church. He is a good preacher and I would bet money that they are highly organized and professional.
