Sis Freeman's 93rd Birthday by Sis. Falla

July 25, 2009

Today was precious Sis. Nona Freeman's 93rd birthday. I was honored to attend her birthday party. Due to Sis. Freeman's having a stroke and some mini-strokes the past year, it was a private come and go party. It was nice but not on the magnitude of her 90th birthday party we attended. She is very fragile but looked wonderful and her spirit was great and I felt strength just being by her side. She is a precious longtime friend which comes from my late father and mother being pastor and wife. My father was a missionary's friend. He loved to have them stay for a day or two after a deputation service
so they could relax and visit.

One fond memory was when someone loaned them a motor home to deputize in and after the service in our city, they parked the motor home and came inside my parents home and Sis. Freeman brought her sewing machine in and sewed, etc. Dad made the missionaries feel so at home and Mom cooked good homecooked meals for them.

At a ladies conference several years ago when Mom was still alive, she told my mother, I have never forgotten a one of those wonderful homecooked meals you fixed for us.

Precious memories.

Sis. Freeman is a miracle of Almighty God!

Sis. Falla

Thanks for this thread and report. I don't know Sis Freeman but have heard great things about her all of my life and I am 50 years old!

What a great ambassador for the Kingdom of God.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

From Sis. Falla

Sis. Nona Freeman's eldest daughter, Sandra. I can see her father in her face. I met Sandra in
1958, at Texas Youth Camp, the only youth camp I ever attended, came home and received the
Holy Ghost not long afterwards. The Freeman's were still serving in Africa at that time. I love this
sweet sister and she has been a wonderful help to her late father and also to her dear mother to
the present time.

It is so awesome to see how God blesses those who have been a blessing to so many. I have read all Sis. Nona's books and will always regret not going one summer to Africa with the Freemans. They asked me to go because of the deaf population in South Africa. I was so determined to pay off my JCM school bill that I stayed home and worked.

I appreciate the way the Freeeman's gave their whole lives to ministry in misisons at home and abroad. It it wonderful how she has captured some of her memories in books so we can share in God's work.

Happy Birthday Sis. Freeman.

Love & blessings, Rhoni

P.S. The pictures of Sis. Nona and Sis. Falla are lovely.

Re: Sis Freeman's 93rd Birthday by Sis. Falla

Growing up the only way I knew Sis. Freeman was through a dear lady in our church, Sis. Mary Chabun.

Every Sunday without fail, Sis. Chabun and my grandmother would walk down the dirt road from our church to the home of another elderly lady. There they would prepare what seemed like a mountain of mashed potatoes, fried chicken, green beans and/or some other veggie, homemade biscuits...and could they ever cook.

Anyway, some Sundays I would stay with them, and after cleaning the kitchen, they would either nap, read, or in Sis. Chabun's case, write a letter to the Freemans.

Sis. Chabun was retired from Buick and didn't have much to give in finances to the mission field, but that didn't stop her. She will never know what an impression that made on a child, but it is a memory that will last forever.

Many years later I sent Sis. Freeman one of the books I had written, and she in turn sent me the sweetest letter of encouragement. That someone with her schedule and ministry would take the time for me meant more than these few words can express.

Re: Sis Freeman's 93rd Birthday by Sis. Falla

My late father served in WWII and when he came home after the war, he came back with
a tremendous burden for foreign missons. Each month he and Mom sent five dollars to the
Freeman's in Africa. Money was scarce but he was dedicated to supporting foreign missions,
in prayer and what he could do. Back then five dollars was a sacrifice to this young couple
with four small children and one on the way.

Each year at Christmas time, we received a Christmas card with the Freeman's photograph
on the front. I was less than ten years old and wondered if perhaps the Freeman's were kin-
folk. We looked forward to their photo Christmas card.

In later years after we moved to our present city, the Freemans would come for miss-
ionary services and my heart would always be so touched as the Freeman's shared their
burden with us. As a young wife and mother, it seemed in some way I connected with
Sis. Freeman as a wife and mother. I wondered how she could be so used in the work
of God with five children and do all she would speak of.

In even later years, in hearing her speak at special services, ladies conferences, etc.,
I would pray for her family and bless them as I had her speak of "Blessings". If she could
give up time with her family and preach the gospel alongside her husband, then I would
pray for her family. I would bless her and Bro. Freeman and each of their children and
those grandsons she would speak of in these meetings. I remember praying for a grand-
son who had left home and they didn't know where he was. Other situations. But God
always intervened. If we take care of those things which are precious to God, HE will
take care of those things that are precious to us! ..quote Jill Briscoe.

Sis. Nona Freeman has been a great inspiration to our extended family as well as to
my family, especially our daughters and daughter in law.

GOD bless this precious saint of God and her daughter, Sandra, in Jesus Name!
