Is Racism Rising Because of Black President?

"Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ''This is our world'' and ''This is a black world'' as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black."

"Marshall was the most seriously injured. He suffered a concussion and multiple bruises to his head and eye. He said he spent five nights in the critical care unit at Akron General Medical Center.

The construction worker said he now fears for his family's safety, and the thousands of dollars in medical bills he faces without insurance."

This family was just watching a Fourth of July fireworks display when attacked.

The article states the case is not being treated as a hate crime... isn't that weird?

Right. I phrased it that way because there was a lot of media concern that racism would rise when the election had first occurred.

Of course there are whites who are racist, but there are African Americans who are racist as well ,sad to say there that racism comes in all shades.

Here in my small southeren town,I see that Spirit on both sides of the fence.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

LOL...my reputation precedes me. I don't have tons of time now, so I'll just answer the question directly for now.

No, I don't think racism is rising because of a black President (the terrible incident in Akron notwithstanding). I have not heard of a great epidemic of such events since the election.

I personally think that in matters of race, having a black President will have the effect of positively affecting racism in ways that will pay great dividends particularly in the younger and future generations.

Was that good enough for now?

Re: Is Racism Rising Because of Black President?

Where I live and this is not a broadbrush statement but alot of black folk seem angry about things that have happened in the past, and seem to want to get even and strike out at white people.

I understand terrible things happened during jim crow, but the present generation had nothing to do with the past.

Personally I'm glad that jim crow is over and we can judge people for their fruit and not by their race.

I think racism manifests itself because of demonic spirits and not because of who is holding office.

Re: Is Racism Rising Because of Black President?

yes.

People, on the many sides of the dodecahedron fence are vulnerable to influence from a variety of people, situations and events.

Somewhere there is a white guy reading about what happened in Akron. He will be disturbed by this a great deal.

Then something stupid happens to him personally, though not as bad-- the perpetrators involved will be black. Maybe he'll just simply witness something and his perception is already skewed.

That some white guy, a few years later is involved in a plot to bomb a black church and Americans, ignorantly shocked, will ask themselves, "What happened to little Johnny-- he comes from a good family!"

The question is about our black President.

The recent political "Tea Party" in Jacksonville, FL was so EMOTIONALLY charged as the organizers compared our AMerican President to Hitler!

It was a demonstration of free speech that I found so vile and disgusting and it wouldn't be happening if Obama wasn't President.

That "Tea Party", "Akron", the snot nosed punk that won't pull his pants up and the white guy who a few weeks, months or years from now who has a bad day or a group of bad days... it all adds up for some.

Replace the white guy in the scenario with the black, Hispanic or Arab guy-- it's all so realistic today, and not just in America.

We're talking about human nature and every day life-- light and darkness, good and evil, positive and negative perceptions and reactions to the not so mundane that forge our thoughts and actions.

It's good to strive to be the best person you can be.
Individually, we all represent so much to sooooo many people.

Re: Is Racism Rising Because of Black President?

I didn't vote for President obama, but it wasn't because of his race, and I have voted for black people before,I like Alan Keyes,on my job during election time I would not talk politics because alot of people assumed if you weren't for Mr.Obama that you were racist,so I refrained from discussing politics on my job.
