A young girl from my church is in desperate need of prayer. I will explain more later, but she's in critical condition at Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis on a ventilator and the doctors have told her parents they are having difficulty getting fluid off her lungs. Her name is Danielle Howell and she's 17 years old. Thank you.

A few months ago, this girl started dropping weight and not eating much. She became anemic and the doctors chalked it up to an eating disorder. Her mom has been taking her back and forth to the doctors in St. Louis for tests, but they couldn't find out where she'd been losing blood or anything that would account for her severe anemia. She's had a few blood transfusions also.
A couple weeks ago, she was at youth camp and became very sick and dehydrated. They drove her 4 hours to the local hospital here, where she was then shipped by helicopter to St. Louis near death. She was placed in ICU and several tests were done.
Within a few days, she was taken out of ICU and the parents were told they would do a colonoscopy on her, as she'd been passing blood. Last Sunday evening, they did an emergency colonoscopy after placing her back in ICU, and took her to surgery first thing Monday morning. They found she had ulcerative colitis and removed most of her colon. She has a lot of fluid buildup and her labs are all out of whack, and she's been sedated and on a respirator since surgery.
I spoke to her mom, who is a good friend of mine, just last night and she told me that while she's still on a respirator and that they'd also put in a chest tube, she appears to be doing better. But I just got the call that things are looking grim, and the doctors said if they cannot get this fluid off her lungs, she will die.
I've known this girl since she was 3 years old, and she's like a daughter to me. She's 17, but is the size of a 12 year old. She loves God and serves Him with all her heart.
Please pray for her and her family. There are three younger children who are also having to deal with this.
Thanks.

Just talked to her mother. She said the doctor put a larger chest tube in to help drain the fluid and they want to start backing off some of the sedation drugs to see if she'll wake up a little bit. I'm going to STL tomorrow to see her. Thanks again, everyone.
