Help again for computer

First I want to thank you all that come to my rescue...Never having taken any classes and being 50 before I ever bought my first computer...(9 years ago) I guess I am learning...sometimes at a slow pace but learning...

I want to send out newsletters with pictures like I see many missionaries do but I have no earthly idea how to put a picture on a letter...much less change it around...size it and whatever.

Is there a program to buy or just what do I do? I have limited resources here but my desktop is new and it came with VISTA...I do have an old desktop that has XP on it...if it works...just had it installed.


We are trying to gather e mail addresses and send fewer letter by snail mail...I think it would save us money once we ever get a good list of e mail addresses and a nice letter.

I am NOT inclined to office work I had rather be mowing the yard...but the need is greater than what I like...I am an outside person by nature.

If you don't have Microsoft Office, you can download Open Office, at openoffice.org. It's similar to MS Office, but it's free!

Within Open office, there is an application called "Writer". It works just like Microsoft Word. You can create letters and "import" pictures. Then you can save the file as a PDF and email them, or print them for whom ever you want.

Open Office is an excellent suggestion.

And for saving the finished newsletter to pdf I suggest DoPdf. It is an excellent program and it is free.

It installs as a printer in your computer and when you want to create a pdf file you simply choose the DoPdf printer and it creates the pdf.

I would also suggest that you search for Free newsletter templates. There are many very nice newsletter templates out there. They are already laid out with a nice design and all you have to do is replace the text with your own text and you a nicely designed newsletter.

thanks...one more question. I see now how to do it with pictures as an annex but do not see how to do it when it will be there when you open the letter? A lot of people will not open annex pictures because they are afraid of a virus.

well am back...had to see a doctoer and tomorrow have lots more tests and they want to see yet another doctor, Wed. Have to see yet another doctor...I sould be able to tell you about all the doctors in my city! ha...lots of doctors lately and lots of tests...

I'm not sure what programs you are working with to design your newsletters, but generally pictures can be copied and pasted straight into a Word document. I've never used Vista, I don't think. What is an annex?
