70% of all foods genetically modifed
I've been researchign this for the last several days, and everywhere I dig I find this same statistic - an estimated 70 percent of all "processed foods" contain ingredients that are genetically modified.
70 percent.
Unlabelled.
No studies on the possible effects on humans.

http://www.safe-food.org/-issue/dangers.html
http://www.tertiarytravel.com/~johnm/modified.htm - "Britain's top medical journal, The Lancet is shortly to publish Arpad Puzstai's research showing changes in the guts of rats fed with GM potatoes. This will re-ignite fears that eating GM foods may endanger human health."

Folks, this is DANGEROUS. Tampering with the world's food supply.
What they do is they take corn, for example, or soy (which is part of most everything we eat unless you grow it yourself), and they splice genes into the corn or soy dna. The new genes and new dna material comes from bacteria, pigs, goats, insects, and even humans, apparently...
That's what you are eating, every meal.
And nobody told you, no labels on the foodstuffs you bought from the store... and no long term studies done, the few studies done indicate SERIOUS PROBLEMS.
Honeybees dying left and right... wonder why?
Finding out about all this, really makes me MAD.

Colony Collapse Disorder
Filed under: General, Environment, Collapse — admin @ 6:29 pm
The Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) refers to the recent and very scary phenomena of the disappearing of billions of honey bees from around the nation. These insects are responsible for a full 30% of our food crops, and yet nearly 70% - 90% of the honeybee colonies around the nation have literally disappeared or been impacted.
24 states and Canada have reported CCD in record numbers. Europe is also now weighing in with reports from Germany, Portugual and Spain.
The significance of this issue cannot be overstated and has received high level attention by public officials. Yet the reason why the bee colonies are collapsing in such huge record numbers has not be fully identified. Various theories have been put forth, but one in particular stands out the most.
Two Theories
The adult bees are literally “disappearing”. No dead bees indicative of sickness or disease are being found in or by the hives. Abandoned hives are full of honey, and even the queen bee, but the worker bees are simply “gone”. What appears to be happening is the bees are leaving on foraging missions and are either getting lost or dying in the 15 - 30 minutes this foraging normally takes.
There are two possibilities why this is happening. Honeybees have magnetic compounds concentrated in certain tissues of their bodies; these may be used as part of a magnetism detector. If the Earth’s magnetic field is somehow being disrupted or disturbed by solar activity or even manmade intervention, then the bee’s could be getting lost and simply cannot find their way back to their hives. They are then dying while on their foraging missions.
Manmade intervention could be caused by the magnetic interference of cell phones and cell towers or something like H.A.A.R.P. energizing the atmosphere. Scientists have also found magnetic material in the bodies of the bee that could be disturbed by bee cloning causing a problem in the ability of the bee’s mechanism in orientation.
Bees are also a keystone species, occupying a special niche in ecology, and their disappearance can mean a “trigger effect”.
Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for science, Edward O. Wilson writes -
“As extinction spreads, some of the lost forms prove to be keystone species, whose disappearance brings down other species and triggers a ripple effect through the demographics of the survivors. The loss of a keystone species is like a drill accidentally striking a powerline. It causes lights to go out all over.” The Diversity of Life
The question remains how much that the honeybee has become a keystone species within the human race because of the pollination of our food supply?
The other theory is that genetically modified (GM) crops are the reason for the colony collapse disorder. GM crops have been specifically engineered to disorient termites, and 40% of corn grown in the United States has been genetically modified to be insect-resistant.
A study in Germany was conducted from 2001 to 2004. The researchers examined the effects of pollen from a genetically modified maize variant called “Bt corn” on bees. A gene from a soil bacterium had been inserted into the corn that enabled the plant to produce an agent that is toxic to insect pests. The study concluded that there was no evidence of a “toxic effect of Bt corn on healthy honeybee populations.” But when, by sheer chance, the bees used in the experiments were infested with a parasite, something eerie happened. According to the Jena study, a “significantly stronger decline in the number of bees” occurred among the insects that had been fed a highly concentrated Bt poison feed.
According to Hans-Hinrich Kaatz, a professor at the University of Halle in eastern Germany and the director of the study, the bacterial toxin in the genetically modified corn may have “altered the surface of the bee’s intestines, sufficiently weakening the bees to allow the parasites to gain entry — or perhaps it was the other way around. We don’t know.”
“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.” Albert Einstein

I wonder if Fritos and Snickers bar are now safer than GM'd potatoes or tomatoes?
If they are doing this with our grain and fruit staples, do you think they earlier practiced these concepts on our packaged junk food? I bet you could hide a lot of developmental science inside the chemistry of a twinkie, ho ho, or Milkyway bar.
Eliseus,
what is your suggestion to avoid giving space to fear after reading the article you brought to this forum?

The GM foods are primarily in the corn and soy products, which make up a huge chunk of the volume of "junk food ingredients". This is why "70 percent of processed food contains genetically modified ingredients". It's the "corn syrup", the "soy" products, the corn by-products, etc etc etc which are placed in practically EVERYTHING YOU BUY FOR DIGESTION.
It is also in the corn and grains fed to chickens, cows, pigs, etc which you buy at the store or the meat market.
We have entered a bona fide sci-fi/horror, apocalyptic fantasy novel, in real time.
Welcome to the brave, new world...

It is very scary what they are doing. And if the honeybees keep disappearing, we are in a world of hurts....
