Baptist Runs Again For Office He Bilked

Just when you think you have seen it all.

Back in 1997 it came out that Henty Lyonds, the President of the Nasvhille based National Baptist Convention, had not only been having an adulterous affair but had been bilking the Natoinal Baptist Convention out of millions of dollars that he had then invested in a home with his mistress, etc.

He spent five years in jail for his crimes but unbelievably is now running again for the office of President of the National Baptist Convention!

This reminds me of the Black folks in DC electing Marion Berry to the city council after he was the most corrupt mayor in their history and had gone to prison for it.

You would think that even the most forgiving Christian who believes in restoration would believe there would be a better leader for a Christian denomination than this man. If this is the best they can do they need to disband.

I have pasted a link to a newspaper article about the situation.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

That is what I was thinking but so sad that some good honest pastors might end up saddled with this loser as their leader.

I would hope so. I noticed in the article they are suffering some of the same issues some Pentecostal org.'s are with the ministerial body aging and not enough young ministers and leaders in the pipeline to replace them.
