9 year old Abortion #2
In the midst of the issues we had the other day along with others we lost a thread I started about a 9 year old in Rio that was raped, became pregnant with twins. Doctors said due to her size, about 80 lbs that she would died if she only had one of them let alone two of them. He parents had the pregnancies terminated. It is illegal in Rio for a lady to have an abortion and the parents may face charges.
Since the thread was deleted and not everyones answers were able to be seen if you can please repost them.
I agreed that it is sad that the choice had to be made. If it were my daughter there would be NO way that I would risk her life for the others. It makes NO sense to risk all three lives in order to try and save two lives. All the knowledge and expertise that the Dr. have say that the kid will die. What would you do? How do you all feel about it?

Re: 9 year old Abortion #2
Not necessarily true.
CPD or Cephalo Pelvic Disproportion means the babies heads are larger if they reach full term than the pelvic pathway. It is routine to do a c-section. Speaking of catholics and their laws in rio. I recall a case where the 12 year old was retarded and had become prenant in the orphanage. The catholic hospital and the staff were unwilling to tie her tubes. Yes these types of cases activate ethics conflicts for us.

Re: 9 year old Abortion #2
Just a horrible situation, but I would also be concerned that the abortion or the delivery could make her unable to have children later. I can't see making her go through with the pregnancy at 9, though. It's difficult enough when you're an adult.

It's easy to condemn that little girl and her parents
because we are not them.

When a soldier shoots a child who is strapped with explosives to save the lives of those with him we realize what a terrible situation the soldier is in. The parents here had a similiar choice. Sometimes we kill innocent people to save other innocent people.

I am not a Doctor, but the doctors in the article (sorry can't find the link again) say that this girl having one of the babies would certainly kill her. I could not and would not fathom being in this situation.

The fallacy in this scenario is twofold:
1. That the girl must carry the babies to fullterm before giving birth. In fact, she could carry them just until they are viable, and then have a scheduled c-section. No need to wait until she will go into dangerous labor, or to carry the babies full term.
2. That the abortion procedure is less dangerous to the girls' life and wellbeing than a c-section. They are both surgical procedures with inherent dangers and potential complications.
The ideal solution would be one that attempts to save all three lives. I would find out when the infants are viable (safely so), and have the doctor remove them so the extended pregnancy doesn't affect the 9-year-old's health anymore than necessary, AND the babies are not endangered anymore than necessary.
We have a lot of fantastic technology these days. These tired old scenarios with the same tired solutions are no longer even necessary.

The Risks of Abortion procedures: --Source
"Side effects may occur with induced abortion, whether surgical or by pill. These include abdominal pain and cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Abortion also carries the risk of significant complications such as bleeding, infection, and damage to organs. Serious complications occur in less than 1 out of 100 early abortions and in about 1 out of every 50 later abortions. Complications may include:
* Heavy Bleeding - Some bleeding after abortion is normal. However, if the cervix is torn or the uterus is punctured, there is a risk of severe bleeding known as hemorrhaging. When this happens, a blood transfusion may be required. Severe bleeding is also a risk with the use of RU486. One in 100 women who use RU486 require surgery to stop the bleeding.
* Infection – Infection can develop from the insertion of medical instruments into the uterus, or from fetal parts that are mistakenly left inside (known as an incomplete abortion). A pelvic infection may lead to persistent fever over several days and extended hospitalization. It can also cause scarring of the pelvic organs.
* Incomplete Abortion - Some fetal parts may be mistakenly left inside after the abortion. Bleeding and infection may result.
* Sepsis – A number of RU486 or mifepristone users have died as a result of sepsis (total body infection).
* Anesthesia – Complications from general anesthesia used during abortion surgery may result in convulsions, heart attack, and in extreme cases, death. It also increases the risk of other serious complications by two and a half times.
* Damage to the Cervix - The cervix may be cut, torn, or damaged by abortion instruments. This can cause excessive bleeding that requires surgical repair.
* Scarring of the Uterine Lining – Suction tubing, curettes, and other abortion instruments may cause permanent scarring of the uterine lining.
* Perforation of the Uterus - The uterus may be punctured or torn by abortion instruments. The risk of this complication increases with the length of the pregnancy. If this occurs, major surgery may be required, including removal of the uterus (known as a hysterectomy).
* Damage to Internal Organs - When the uterus is punctured or torn, there is also a risk that damage will occur to nearby organs such as the bowel and bladder.
* Death - In extreme cases, other physical complications from abortion including excessive bleeding, infection, organ damage from a perforated uterus, and adverse reactions to anesthesia may lead to death. This complication is rare, but is real.
Consider Other Risks of Abortion
Abortion and Preterm Birth:
Women who undergo one or more induced abortions carry a significantly increased risk of delivering prematurely in the future. Premature delivery is associated with higher rates of cerebral palsy, as well as other complications of prematurity (brain, respiratory, bowel, and eye problems).
Abortion and Breast Cancer:
Medical experts are still researching and debating the linkage between abortion and breast cancer. Here are some important facts:
* Carrying your first pregnancy to full term gives protection against breast cancer. Choosing abortion causes loss of that protection.
* A number of reliable studies have concluded that there may be a link between abortion and the later development of breast cancer.
A 1994 study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found: “Among women who had been pregnant at least once, the risk of breast cancer in those who had experienced an induced abortion was 50% higher than among other women.”
Risks of C-Section
Most mothers and babies do well after C-section. But it is major surgery, so it carries more risk than a normal vaginal delivery. Some possible risks of C-section include:
* Infection of the incision or the uterus.
* Heavy blood loss.
* Blood clots in the mother’s legs.
* Injury to the mother or baby.
* Problems from the anesthesia, such as nausea, vomiting, and severe headache.
* Breathing problems in the baby if it was delivered before its due date.
If she gets pregnant again, a woman with a C-section scar has a small risk of the scar tearing open during labor (uterine rupture). She also has a slightly higher risk of a problem with the placenta, such as placenta previa.

Re: 9 year old Abortion #2
It sounds as though there is no good option. If it were my nine year old, I wouldn't risk the life of my child.

Ok. Which child? Remember the 9 year old is carrying 2 children. The natural birth represents a risk at any age for the mom. Abortion always kill one sometime 2 or more. sometimes including the mom. some times the mom kills herself after the depression after an abortion.
some times a mom dies from breast cancer which comes with greater frequency in women that have interepted their pregnancy.
