Woohoo! Going to Brazil

Well, it looks like I may get to pay the Alvears a visit in November. I'm going with another mission team to the far Southwest corner of Brazil and then when they leave to fly to Rio for a few days of touristy stuff, I get to fly to Maceio in the Northeast part to see my friends!!! I'm very excited! The gal called me today who is putting the team together and she is ordering tickets this week.

Sis. A--tell Gabriel that Tia Sherri is planning to come down!

I'm envious in a good way.
Give lots of hugs and take lots of photos.

From what I understand, on Oct. 29, I will be flying out of Memphis into Dallas, where we will hook up with a bunch of other people. Then on to Sao Paulo and then Iguazu Falls, on the Brazilian border of Argentina and Paraguay (I think). We are there a week and then when everyone else flies to Rio, I will fly to Maceio and stay there three days with the Alvears. Then I will fly back to Rio to meet up with the group and fly home through Miami on November 9th. At least that's how I understood it! I'm not the one getting the tickets, so I may not be exactly right. I did find out that my friends Nelson & Pam Hight will be flying with me from Memphis, so I won't be alone at all except for the little trip to see the Alvears.

Amazing all of these far away places that most people have never heard of before let alone even see and you get to see so many places! Did you ever imagine you would see as much of the world as you do now?!

Hi Sherri,

I was at Catarates del Igauzu last year, and I will say it is incredible, and beautiful! 1 million liters of water per second going over the falls when I was there. Butterflies everywhere, it was gorgeous! I mean, mind boggling. Hopefully you will be there when there is a lot of water going over the 3 kms of waterfalls...

Let me recommend St. Georges hotel on the Argentinine side of the falls. It may sound weird, but Argentina is a lot more laid back (and safer!). St. Georges is a first class place, basically right in the city. Ciudad del Este in Paraguay right at the border (go over smugglers bridge) is worth a visit, but take a local guide... it is not that safe, and certainly nowhere I would want to be at night. I never had any problems in Brazil, even when accidentally winding up in Brazil without going through a border crossing...

If you have never been there before, be prepared for a change of life. Once you see the churches, and local people, it is impossible to come back the same person.
