Just reading a new book. Its a mock interview of Jesus and the author conducts the interview as if Jesus did not know he was Messiah. I actually haven't got very far in the book. I'm to the point where he makes his first trip to the temple.
But "Jesus" describes how he began to wonder who he was as a young boy studying scripture.
I guess I thought he always knew who he was. Anyone care to comment?

I would guess around the time he told his human parents when they found him in the temple that he had to be about his Father's business.

That's an excellent question for discussion. I've heard some folks say that he always knew that He was God because He was God and, in part, I can see that. But, the fact that He was also fully human and capable of sinning and experienced what we all go through in life, makes me wonder how He "blended" the Divinity and humanity and when the humanity actually became aware of the Divinity!
I don't have an answer for that one, but I doubt if it was when He was born. The technicalities of the Incarnation are mind boggling! He did all of this for US!!

There are some things that His humanity did not know.
1- He asked "Who touched me?" Some argue that He did know and was given the woman the chance to come forth, I personally believe that He did not know anything except what the Spirit revealed.
2- Jesus also said
Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
I think we must be careful to differentiate between His humanity not knowing and the Divinity knowing all!
I do believe that somewhere in his early childhood He begin to come to a realization of the fact, through the Spirit.

The interview (book) brings to attention the fact that just like any other Jewish boy he would have studied scripture leading up to his bar-mitzvah. He talks about how the prophecies of Messiah weghed upon his mind as he considered if "He could actually be "HIM".
8: But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9: Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10: And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
11: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
12: And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. Heb. 1:8-12
I've also wondered when his siblings knew it. Do you think it got on their nerves having a perfect brother?
The author indicated that James probably riduculed Jesus to the point where he wrote in his book the things about bridling the tongue. As if he had learned his lesson.

Good question. If he was truly human then was he able to think with that clarity as an infant? How many 1 year olds "think" that they are going to be rocket scientists when they grow up, let alone Messiah?
