Hebrews 2:14 - & satan's destruction
Please give your input here on this issue.
I am dealing with a brother who believes satan is absolutely no issue to the Christian today, and that any problems we have are only flesh and nothing more. He thinks this to such an extent that he believes the reference to wrestling principalities and powers is not even talking about demons and satan.
Hebrews 2:14 KJV Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
While I agree the cross made satan a defeated foe, unless we truly have faith in the work of the cross in giving us victory, we will struggle against satan. The Bible teaches we must resist the devil. It teaches to give no place to the devil. It tells us to be vigilant because our devil is our adversary who seeks whom he may devour. Since the cross, satan was yet to be bruised under the feet of the believers according to Romans.
Please share your thoughts on how Heb 2:14 indeed does show victory over satan, but that this does not mean we should ignore the devil either.

Re: Hebrews 2:14 - & satan's destruction
Obviously the brother never cast out a devil before? or know of it?

He thinks the issue of satan is a concern for sinners, but not believers to the extent that believers need not work against the devil as a threat whatsoever. He is correct in a sense, but to think wrestling against principailities and powers is not wrestling against the devil and demons is something else. Any opinions of how Heb 2:14 is not saying what he thinks it is saying? I guess that is my main question.

Satan already has the sinners, he wants to go after Christians because they aren't. And if he gets some of us, he thinks he's winning.

One chess master tells another: "Check mate in 12 moves". Has he won yet? Not technically, but the win IS assured.

What would give no place to the devil mean? What "lest he get the advandage"??? Sounds like Paul still considered him a force for christians to be aware of.
I think IN CHRIST sums it up, as long as we stay in Christ in submission and obedience then the works of the devil is destroyed.

Re: Hebrews 2:14 - & satan's destruction
Very good words, all. Can someone break Heb 2:14 down and show it is not what our brother, with whom I am working, thinks?
