How do others handle this?

Last November, due to some upcoming health concerns on my part, and other factors, we went to one service on Sunday instead of two. We still have Wednesday night Bible study, and Thursday night prayer.

But, I have recently began to be concerned that our youth seldom hear the preached Word by their pastor. I do not feel this is just my ego talking.

Our Sunday format is when the older youth are dismissed to SS, I preach to those still in the sanctuary. Younger children go to Children's Church during worship, and then SS.

Wednesday nights, we have corporate worship, but then dismiss the children and older youth as I teach (or preach as God leads)those still in the sanctuary.

I believe our youth are missing something, and am at odds as to how to correct it.

How do you handle it? All suggestions are welcome, but all may not be adhered to!

Re: How do others handle this?

Are those leading your youth teaching the same things that you teach? Not meaning the same topic on the same night. Just meaning, does what they teach line up with what you would teach if you were teaching on the same subject?

If so, then maybe it's ok for now?

If I were to be completely honest with you, I'd tell you that I can't remember a single sermon that my pastor preached when I was a youth. I do however remember that he was very involved with us as youth and was an intelgral part of our lives. I think we got more from him outside of the church than we got from sermons. Do you understand what I am saying?

by the way, I have to tell you all that when I was a youth in the Apostolic church, I had the BEST pastor anyone could ever have had! I am proud to tell you that I grew up under Bro Paul Dennis. Not a finer pastor anywhere! And then, lucky me, I went from him to Bro Roy Well. Those two pastors did more to form who I became than anyone will ever know. The BEST. The are simply the BEST. Both of them I was blessed!

Would you consider keeping them in the auditorium on Wednesday then adding a jammin Fri or Sat night Youth Service?

That may be a possibility. Main drawback deals with us being out in the sticks, with a lengthy drive for almost all concerned.

Since gas prices have come back down, it is not the same issue as before.

I have thought about this as well, I have utmost confidence in our youth leaders, but their style is mostly a teaching format, as opposed to preaching.

I do believe there is a difference.

Re: How do others handle this?

Brother, if it were me and my hubby...we would keep them out in the service on Sunday since you have a youth service on Wed. nights.

Youth now a days, NEED to hear from their pastor. We have youth service the 2nd and 4th Wed night each month. The other 2-3 Wed, he teaches or preaches. Our youth leader has just stepped down, so I have taken the Youth Services over. I believe they need to hear from their pastor!!!!

Just MHO!!
