Tom Freidman makes a great point in his

column today as he usually does. For a pair that now wants to buy people houses and fight wars, they haven't proposed a way of paying for it.

Mike, TOM FRIEDMAN IS A LIBERAL NUT JOB!!! His column makes sense? Are you serious?
This column is so transparently skewed I am amazed you can't see it.

Let me dissect this pathetic column:

Quote:
Criticizing Sarah Palin is truly shooting fish in a barrel. But given the huge attention she is getting, you can’t just ignore what she has to say. And there was one thing she said in the debate with Joe Biden that really sticks in my craw. It was when she turned to Biden and declared: “You said recently that higher taxes or asking for higher taxes or paying higher taxes is patriotic. In the middle class of America, which is where Todd and I have been all of our lives, that’s not patriotic.”

What an awful statement. Palin defended the government’s $700 billion rescue plan. She defended the surge in Iraq, where her own son is now serving. She defended sending more troops to Afghanistan. And yet, at the same time, she declared that Americans who pay their fair share of taxes to support all those government-led endeavors should not be considered patriotic.

I only wish she had been asked: “Governor Palin, if paying taxes is not considered patriotic in your neighborhood, who is going to pay for the body armor that will protect your son in Iraq? Who is going to pay for the bailout you endorsed? If it isn’t from tax revenues, there are only two ways to pay for those big projects — printing more money or borrowing more money. Do you think borrowing money from China is more patriotic than raising it in taxes from Americans?” That is not putting America first. That is selling America first.
This is too easy.

Palin quoted Biden's statement defending RAISING TAXES as an patriotism by saying that raising taxes is not considered pariotic by most Americans. Americans obviously understand that without taxes we couldn't have a government. That is not what Palin said. She was saying that Obama's tax increase idea shrouded under the guise of patriotism is deceitful.

Someone volunteering themselves to do something dangerous and courageous for our country is patriotic. Getting choked up at the national anthemn or pledge of allegiance is patriotic. Defending America, serving our country is patriotic. Being FORCED to pay higher taxes IS NOT PATRIOTISM! It is WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION. Didn't the original patriots start this country because of unjust taxation??????

Who is more patriotic: the Washington politician who passes a law that forces people to pay higher taxes or the business owner who puts his captial at risk to start or run a business and in the process employs 25, 50, or 100 American citizens? I would take the business owner any day with his money over the guy in Washington with that same man's money.

Friedman thinks its awful for Americans to pay less taxes???? FAIR SHARE??? That's liberal speak for taking money from the wealthier and giving it to the poor. I am by no means wealthy but I do understand basic economics. Unjustly overtaxing the wealthy will hurt all of us.

How many employees do poor people have? How many Americans make a living as a result of the investments that poor people make? Did you know that the bottom 50% of Americans pa less than 3% of taxes? Did you know that a very small percentage of the top income brackets pay nearly 70% of taxes? What will the wealthy do if they have to give more of their money away to the government? They will lay people off, possibly close their businesses or they will ship their business to another country where they can operate affordably.

Do you know how many jobs were created during the Reagan years? 21 MILLION. Taxes were cut to reasonable levels and the government revenues doubled because of the growth in the economy. The Reagan years produced the longest period of growth in our economy in peacetime history. It is villified by the liberals but the facts bear out this truth: TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS works!

YOU GUYS HAVE IT ALL WRONG! An Obama presidency will be a disaster for America. I hope that McCain/Palin win, even if NY media snobs like Friedman are losing sleep over Sarah and her populism.

But you've got to admit, Obama is a handsome, sexy (according to the women of The View), eloquent orator, young and impressive in the stage. He makes us feel good, right? That's a good reason to elect a man. Clinton did the same thing for us. Magnetism, stage presence, charisma, charm---those are COMPELLING REASONS to vote for him, right?

Its amazing that smart people can't see beyond this.

This is the very reason a vast majority of the world will blindly follow the man of sin because he will be given a "mouth speaking great things." Being telegenic without the substance has more merit to many than being a great leader. Leadership, integrity, smart choices, good company, experience, and character are immaterial if you can look good, sound good and make people feel good.

What wealth? Do you keep up with the national debt that your party has accrued over the last 8 years with it's silly wars and mistakes? I'm up to my ears with all this talk about redistrubiton of wealth. Is it not clear that we are in the red in this country? Unfortunately, those tax dollars you're worried about the poor getting their hands on, is owed to foreign investors and countries. Surely, you know that.

Here's a thought. GWB went on a ridiculous spending spree in excess of the budget and wrote hot checks. We've borrowed money from China into the trillions and you and a large number of others who call themselves "fiscal conservatives" are perfectly ok with that.

A guy like Biden suggests it's patriotic not to sell ourselves to Communist China and pay the debts the Republican President has accrued and you guys bristle. Amazing.
