Dan mentioned equating repentance to the altar.
On another direction:
Yes we do have "Altars"...places of prayer. Their original intent was a place of contrition...of deep prayerful repentance and confession. Godly sorrow....
Do we still have that? It seems MOST of the people coming to our Pentecostal alter calls and spending time in heart felt soul seeking and dedication to God are us Pentecostals!
When was the last time an altar call was given for sinners and the sinners came weeping and ....AND...we allowed the to spend time doing that in the presence of God? How long before we jump em and jerk their hands in the air and "pray them through"?
Maybe DB had some good points...Maybe if we had deep heart felt repentance on all our parts people would be getting the Holy Ghost all over the place. Do we really allow that process to take place and take it's full course?
We say "
Acts 2:38" but it seems like we really just mean "baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues" more than the repentance part..
Were again is the weeping? When and were are the ministers weeping between the altar and the porch? Do our messages bring a deep affect on the sinners to hate sin in their lives so much....that godly sorrow?
2Co 7:9 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.
2Co 7:10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
2Co 7:11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.
Where is the humble obeisance anymore too? Do we really know how to prostrate ourselves anymore...physically or spiritually?
