Are We An "Entertainment" Focused Society?
I didn't get a response on the "basis for a walk with Jesus" thread so here goes again.
Are we an entertainment obsessed culture? I believe in the world at least in North America we are.
How about in the Church?
Have we become so Entertainment Focused that we would be more inclined to
be Entertainment than to Fast? Than to Pray? Than to attend Revivals?
Than to go on outreach? Than to teach Bible Studies?
In speaking to a Minister friend of mine he stated that he was against TV because it is not only not Spiritually Healthy but is a big Time Waster, when their is work to be done for the Kingdom by all the Saints not just Ministry.
He has a "Strong Point" to be made. Are we an Entertainment Oriented culture in our Churches rather than a Revival Oriented culture?
Your Thoughts?
For or against?
Why, why not?

Not a bandwagon-but an issue.
He brought up an interesting thought that has been going over in my mind.
What do you think? Holds water? Doesn't hold water?
Has a point to a degree?

Is it that we're focused on entertainment? Or that our brains are so overloaded with exciting media all the time that our minds don't even sit up and take notice unless there's bright flashes and emotionally charged music going along with whatever else it taking place at the same time????
I think we've raised a generation of kids whose attention we do have to "grab" or they aren't going to hear a word we have to say. IMO, we can either wish fondly for the good old days when a droning lecture commanded attention, or we can get with the program and do whatever it takes to get our message across. Probably a good middle ground in there somewhere, too, but I dont' have time to dig any deeper. See ya'll tomorrow!!!!

I think it is a great point.
A church isn't even a "good" church unless it has a service of a certain pitch and offers plenty of entertainment. Otherwise the church hasn't enough value for people to stay around.
Scary thought there...

Your friend is right about television.
But it is possible to put anything ahead of seeking after and working with God. work, family, the internet, even church activities if you neglect prayer and study of God's word instead.

Forums are different.
Most are..
Some aren't
Those that aren't still have people who are only there for the entertainment value.
