This is a short video about a dad in the US Army who was deployed to Iraq for 7 months & surprised his son at school when he returned.
He is from just across the border.
There were 4 buses full of soldiers, and our little one spotted her dad first.
I watched as he exited the bus, and came toward us.
He was the only one carrying a stuffed camel, that played a message in Arabic.
My husband carried that camel through customs, and some of them told him he could not bring it home.
He told them he had to get it to a little red haired girl, or she would be very mad at him.
I watched as he hugged our son, and they were now the same size.
I watched as he bent down and picked up our little one, and Oh, how she hugged him.
He then tried to put her down, and she wouldn't let go.
My husband carried her around the entire time we were at the Home Coming service.
Just a few days before we picked him up, my little one asked, "Mom, what does dad look like?"
She then went to look at our wedding picture to see what he looked like.
My kids have been at my mothers house for a week - in arkansas. Now I'm crying because I miss them -- I can not imagine being away for months at a time.

I'm doing well... fat (less fat now though -- I'm down 25 pounds) and sassy... yourself?

I can remember a day when I was 3 and this very same scene happened when my dad came home from a 6 month cruise whille he was in the Navy, that was his last cruise because he soon was reassigned to instructor before he retired. Twenty eight years ago he retired after 25 years in the Navy and 4 years National guard before that. Thank you Dad for your service...now I'm crying again myself.

It just breaks my heart to think of all the six-year olds who will never get to have that kind of reunion. The toll that that seven month absence had on the child was obvious on his face. I just can't imagine having to sit that same child down and explain to him that his father is in a "better place" and would never be coming to pick him up..
