A new term to kill off Con/Mod/Lib titles

The way you say things can cause folks to walk into a discussion with all kinds of pre-conceptions.

If I say im moderate or liberal it makes folks put me into a box where I am going to attack their personal devotions, tell them they are in bondage and then fly off to do a TBN telethon fund raiser where I offer them a Jacobs blessing if they give $77.76 because the Lord told me to in a pizza dream.

If I say I am a conservative it means i teach against wearing the color red, I am glad to have other churches come to my events but I dont want my young folks mixing with the other unwashed apostolics, and I still am on the fence as to whether I need a "perferred Apostolic future" with another org.

Maybe those of us sick of taking titles from the political world of running for office should re-label ourselves into something no one can argue with.

I propose the title of "Textualist", that is something that no one has hi-jacked yet. I was thinking of using the word "Expository" but some folks think its too baptist to just preach from the scripture and explain it rather than taking a topic "that will preach" and wrapping a verses around tonights opinion.

Here's how I will use it in actual conversation...

When a fellow minister or pastor says "Where do you stand on X thing in the church?"

I will say "When it comes to issues like that I am a Textualist. I teach where the Bible is clear, and when I find the scripture isn't crystal clear I frankly tell them there is problems with the interpretation of the original text in light of my current level of understanding. If they feel they need direction on the matter I tell them to apply biblical principles and let the Holy Spirit lead them to where they feel peace about it"

So yes, I have converted to Textualism.

dunno, but im looking for a more neutral term, when I say im moderate/liberal it offends my UPC brothers. So I need to rephrase it without the baggage they bring into what they hear.

We could just all be who we are and who we feel God has called us to be and not compare ourselves amongst ourselves.

Think that would work? No? I didn't either.

Textualist is an interesting term.

But the explanation sounds a little to Church of Christ.
