Satellite Internet
Can anyone share their take on the various Satellite Internet services?
I am looking for pros & cons of one company over another for issues such as...
Price
Fair Access Policies
Dependability
Speed
Does the FAP affect the average surfer much?
I tend to stream videos most of the work day... listening to them. I assume that will have to come to an end.
Any help would be appreciated as I will choosing a Satellite Internet provider soon.

Re: Satellite Internet
I have service at home with WildBlue. I can't remember exactly why I went with them other than i think it was a little cheaper per month than everyone else.
I am paying $50 a month, I think, and I have 500K downloand 128K upload. I realize that it not real fast but for a few bucks more you can double it. I have no trouble watching youtube videos and live streaming.
Here is a link to Wild Blue's Fair Access policy.

Thanks... I have looked really hard at Wild Blue.
They are a little cheaper and they seem to have the best FAP that I have seen so far as well.
I just missed a big sale... I didn't want to buy the internet service yet until I will be actually moving. I am already paying 2 light bills, 2 water bills etc.
Thanks again for your input.

Is that through a cable company?
Where we are moving we don't have access to high speed internet through the Phone company or through cable companies.
I have heard that internet through the cable companies can be very fast when there aren't a large number of people in that area using that internet and that it can be slow if there are a lot of people.
Comcast reports losing thousands of customers a month due to Satellite & Phone competition so cable internet may be turning into the fastest deal out there.

Re: Satellite Internet
Are you looking at satellite because it is the only thing available?
....And cable internet, on average, is the fastest option for nearly all. And yes, Verizons FIOS is the best, IF available. Right now we have DSL (barely) and 1.5 Mbps down and 256 Kbps up is the fastest we can do.

We looked into that, but decided against it. The reason - we heard it breaks up like regular satellite tv and is annoying for downloads, gaming (which we aren't into, just saying), etc.
I went through our local phone company.

That is definitely what we would do if we had the choice.
Satellite does not do well for gaming or any other application that requires fraction of a second responses.
I have Directv and I would estimate that we lose video less than 15-20 minutes per year. So if the Satellite Internet can do anywhere near that well that would definitely be acceptable.

Yes sir...
Satellite is our only option.
No DSL available through the phone company and no cable company services the area.

That's good then. When we had satellite tv it broke up - a lot - and especially when it was raining, which is a common occurrence where we live. Even a little overcast would break it up.
