If you don't mind spending a little, Larrivee is the only way to go!! The were handmade in Canada. Their necks are smaller which is great for a woman. They also have super action!! They produce so much sound that they almost need no amplification. I owned one for over 3 years. It was one of the best guitars I ever owned. You can find them at Larrivee.com.
PS Don't let the prices on their website scare you. You can find them much lower, and you can find many used ones at a great price as well.

Like I said, you can get them for a GREAT price if you buy used. I got mine mine at an unreal price off EBay.
I've played guitar since the early 1970's. What I tell folks buying an entry level guitar is buy the best you can afford. If you buy a poorly made guitar, it probably will be more unplayed than played. The action and sound on such a guitar like that is often very poor. That will make it hard for any guitar player, regardless of experience, to enjoy. That is why I always suggest a used guitar since you can often get a better quality guitar for the price.
Here is another choice, Denny Zager modified Martin Sigma guitars. HERE is his website. He is one of the guys that wrote and recorded the 1969 song "In the Year 2525." He now does guitar teaching and modifications.

Re: Wanna Buy An Acoustic Guitar For The Wife
I've played professionally for 30 years...owned many different guitars (Martin, Taylor, Larrive, Guild, Gibson, etc,). The best guitar I've purchased for the money is anything made by Godin. (Seagull, Simon & Patrick) These instruments can cost from just a couple hundred dollars to just a bit over a thousand. But, they are GREAT guitars for the money. I own 2 of thier products at the moment and they get a workout!!!!!
Just my opion
