Mommy's GIRL!!!!!! *sniff*

We have never forced our children into daily devotions. We pray with each of them each night (well, actually Jeff does the PM Prayers, and I pray with them in the morning before they leave for school), and leave their personal prayer/devotional time to their own choosing.

However. I have bought all sorts of children's devotional books, inspirational books, children's bibles, etc., and I leave them lying around the house. So this afternoon when I walked into the living room to find Sarah with her nose buried in a book, I was so proud when she answered my "Whatcha readin'?" question by holding up the "Jesus & Me" devotional book for kids! I pretended not to care, but my heart was leaping and dancing when she read through several days worth of devotions! SUCH a proud Mommy moment. *sob*

(She's interested--on her own!!!!!)

Okay, so it doesn't take much to make me proud.

Pass the Kleenex.

(I applaud your technique; directing the interest but not force fed)

Awww.....

My 14 yr old daughter just finished reading the Bible all the way through (her first time) and did it in 5 months. She is interested in a nice Bible and has mentioned that she'd like a Thompson Chain. She wants to study it also. I think it's great.

That is great! I hope we can inspire our kids to take an interest in God's Word like that. I know we have a responsibility to instill certain things in them, but I want their relationship with God to be authentic and organic and to come about as independently as possible.

My daughter read 'the hair chapter' and was asking me about it.....LOL!

I told her all sides of the issue and told her that she has to decide for herself. She hasn't cut her hair in almost 3 years. It's longer than her waist.

She didn't see women in pants mentioned though......LOL!

She also didn't see jewelry prohibited.

I've always allowed my kids to live as they believe, as long as it doesn't go against scripture.

In spite of how I believe, they are turning out pretty well!

I understand Miss B, I feel similar when my 6 and my 8 yr old read directly from the Bible to study their Bible Quizzing!

This is great! I agree with your technique, making these types of things readily available, but not forcing the issue. I pretty much did the same things with my daughter.

I can't tell you how great it was to see my children listen to the Bbile on Cd... we have the Bible Experience and they listen to it every night by their choice...... Then during a bible trivia game at church, my children were answering questions I didn't know the answer to! !!!!

I like the idea of having Godly literature and such around the house! It's great!

I got that for my parents for Christmas, I had heard some really great things about it (some of them on here, I think Renda had mentioned it) and my parents are impossible to buy gifts for. They are really enjoying it, they had been playing some cheesy ones they bought at the dollar store while they were traveling, so I scored on that one!!!
