Outward Appearance

Obviously, there are many of us who have been taught that outward standards are very important. In fact, whether we will admit it or not, many of us have, and may still, judge people on their outward appearance.

What is your take on this scripture (spoken from the lips of Jesus, Himself, I might add):

John 7:24:

24Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment

Sounds like to me the state of the heart is of utmost importance.

You will find yourself doing less judging when folks are modest.

More judging when there are requirements.

Every church has its boundries.

It is the standards police that causes the judging.

Some of us have had things instilled in us from youth Neck.....I know you know that....but peer pressure is the main issue I think. Image...what people think of me if I go against the "standard".

The maintaining is representative of not much outside of peer pressure.

I like this verse also.It doesnt matter how we look on the outside if the inside is rotten.

1Sam.16
[7] But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Re: Outward Appearance

Man is a three part being, Spirit, soul and body. Your spirit will live forever and your body will return to the dust of the earth. It amazes me how so many focus on the body and not the Spirit.

If your heart is right the rest of you will be right. You can clothe a woman from head to toe, make her do things that make her unattractive and she can still have a seducing spirit. You take a man trim him up all nice and neat and he can still lust after everything that walks by.

Get the heart right because out if flows the issues of life. If the heart is right the life will be right. You don't need man telling you have to dress, fix your hair, or anything. If your heart is right and seeking the Lord the Spirit will convict (not condemn) you to change what needs to be changed.

Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty!
