PLEASE Let's Stay Right on Topic on this one
Hey everybody,
I have a question I'm going to throw out, concerning a verse in a chapter we all know VERY well.
I Corinthians 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
"Power On" In Greek: "Exousia Epi"
Can anyone tell me what they think this means? This does have to do with hair and the debate over headcovering/veiling, but I don't want to get sidetracked on that. Let's just take this verse and see what exousia epi has to tell us.
Could this power on be synonomous with power over, therefore giving HER the decision, authority and power over her hair, whether it is cut or not or what condition she chooses keeps it in?
GOD BLESS!
Bro. Alex

Re: PLEASE Let's Stay Right on Topic on this one
Many people are using the wrong definition for the word "power" in I Corinthians!
Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power 1411 of God.
G1411
δύναμις
dunamis
doo'-nam-is
From G1410; force (literally or figuratively); specifically miraculous power (usually by implication a miracle itself): - ability, abundance, meaning, might (-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle (-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.
1Co 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power1849 on her head because of the angels.
G1849
ἐξουσία
exousia
ex-oo-see'-ah
From G1832 (in the sense of ability); privilege, that is, (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery (concretely magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence: - authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.
Having understood this, I see that the "power in the hair" is not miraculous, but being a privilege, a freedom and a right.

You said "power in the hair", but the Bible says "power on the head", what's the difference in this?
Also, do you believe then that the Scripture says that the woman can have "power on" her head and decide what to do with her hair and/or wearing a covering?
GOD BLESS!

Some have taught we have miraculous power because of the long hair and it affords protection to our family, home, community, etc.
I see that as taking the authority away from the actual "head" - the husband. Therefore, I don't agree with this teaching.

That's good, DT, cause agreeing "like a woman" would be a little freaky.
