Neglecting the word. God's Love Letters to us

I was thinking while praying how I have asked God to feed me...lead me...give me wisdom...and then I didn't even bother to read his word.

This is like the Israelites asking for food when all they had to do was rise up and gather the manna.

How privileged we are to have His word when many today do not have it. Many Christians in places like China may not have their own copy. For many years the Israelites had lost the word of God. So many are wanting to hear from the Lord when they do not even consider that the Lord has already spoken. And even now, many argue over His word for doctrine....I wonder in all that arguing if we have failed to allow His word to change us personally and relationally.

Have you ever wanted to just hear God say "I love you"? He said it nearly 2000 years ago and God moves the Apostles to record it for us. His word is Manna to our souls. If we neglect to read it are we starving our souls?

Just some thoughts

  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Thank you Praxeas.

These are GOOD thoughts. I totally agree, we get so hung up on wanting a word from God, or looking for the will of God, and both are right in front of us, in His Word!

You are welcome. Another thought....I love the miraculous...I think we need more of it, but I wonder and am bothered by the idea that some people can't seem to live for God unless they are experiencing constant miracles or need to hear an audible voice or have visions and dreams and God speaking to them all the time when we have the most important revelation we will EVER need...the Word of God!

That was some people's apparent problem in the bible...they sought signs when they already had the word. Is His written word enough for us? Does it satisfy your soul?

Yes, we are starving our souls.

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Luke 4:4

Isa 43:4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

Jer 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

The word translated as Love here in either passage is Ahav (H157).

According to the Gesenius Hebrew Chaldee Lexicon (Gesenius is considered the father of modern lexography), ahav means:

1) To desire, to breathe after anything. The signification of breathing after, hence longing for. To be inclined.

2) To love. A friend, i.e. one who is loving and beloved, intimate; different from a companion.

3) To delight in anything, in doing anything.

The idea here is one of an intimate passion... Just like the passion between husband and wife. Yearning. Hunger. Intensity. The more intense the breathing, the more intense the passionate love.

In that sense... God not only 'loves' us, he longs for us. He aches for us. He breathes after us. He is passionately in love with each and every one of us (except Praxeas ) and longs for our company and our friendship. We are his beloved friends, who he hungers to spend time with and commune with.

I like that, Ronzo.

Thanks. I needed to be reminded. There are many times I am guilty of this.

You know what has helped me to consistently read the word of God...a daily Bible reading plan! I had tried to read the Bible through for a number of years but usually gave up around Numbers or Leviticus then I found this other plan that organizes the reading by topics:http://www.bible-reading.com/bible-plan.html

I've been able read the Bible through for the past two years as well as added some studies to the mix. There is another plan where it is set up to read the Bible in chronological order. It meshes together the historical books with the prophetical books. I'm not sure if I will try that this year or wait til next.
