II Peter 3:8

II Peter 3:8 says "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Using this formula, forty-two years to us is only one hour to God.

So according to God:

Fifteen Minutes Ago: The Y2K scare just happened and 9/11 was about to occur.

Half Hour Ago: Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait, first Persian Gulf War.

One Hour Ago: Richard Nixon was president. Landing on the moon and Woodstock. Watergate was three years away. Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and Gunsmoke are popular TV shows. Remember "Hey Jude" by the Beatles? Bubblegum music is popular. A gallon of gas cost 33˘. A gallon of milk was $1.07. A loaf of bread was 22˘. A brand new car could be bought for $2,500.

One and a Half Hours Ago: Rebirth of the Nation of Israel.

Two Hours Ago: The Twenties was roaring with bootleggers, speakeasies, and flapper girls. Television demonstrated for the first time. A new Model-T Ford cost about $260. The Great Depression not far away. World War One was eleven years earlier and World War Two was ten years away.

Three Hours Ago: Gasoline powered automobile invented by Karl Benz. Telephone recently invented. The modern perversions of the Bible began appearing with the Revised Version of 1881-85. A half-hour earlier was the American Civil War.

Four Hours Ago: Covered wagons were crossing the Plains

Six Hours Ago: Industrial Revolution. John and Charles Wesley. Declaration of Independence not yet signed.

Eight Hours Ago: Puritans in America.

Ten Hours Ago: The King James Bible about to be published.

Twelve Hours Ago: Columbus discovers America. William Tyndale. Martin Luther. The Reformation begins. Printing press with movable type invented some time before.

Eighteen Hours Ago: Gunpowder brought to Europe.

One Day Ago: The Vikings

One and a Half Days Ago: Fall of the Roman Empire.

Two Days Ago: Jesus was on Earth

Three Days Ago: David was King of Israel

Three and a Half Days Ago: Moses about to lead children of the Israel out of Egypt.

Four Days Ago: Abraham

Re: II Peter 3:8

My thoughts are that Peter was NOT saying everytime we see a day we should think of 1000 years. Peter was saying that God is able to bring something to pass whether or not one day or one thousand years passes before. In other words, it is no less sure for a prophecy to come to pass after one day of time passing since the prophecy than it is for it to come to pass after one thousand years passed.

I think so too.

Basically, God exists and works beyond the confinements of time.
