Hallelujah!! GOD IS GOOD!!!!!

We went to court today. Our lawyer met with the prosecutor before we ever went into the courtroom and between the two of them and the probation officer, they worked out a deal.

The sum total of it is: This is being considered "unofficial". (I'm sure that Newman could explain what that means better than I can). What they said it means is that Keith will have no permanent record. He will not have to serve any more time. In fact, our lawyer told us that he was told that the only reason he had to stay for 3 nights in juvie jail was because it was a weekend. THAT makes me unhappy! If it had happened on a weeknight, he would not have had to spend even one night! Oh well, this was probably good for him.

They are hooking him up with an organization here that will act as a go-between. They will meet with the person whose house was damaged (there was no damage), and with Keith and will mediate between the two of them. The homeowner gets to say what they want Keith to do in order to make restitution. The mediator will make sure that their demands are reasonable and not over-board. And then they will supervise Keith while he fulfills his obligations to the people.

Once that is done, it's OVER

There are not words to tell you how much I appreciate all of you and your prayers and love and support!!! If you EVER need me - I will be there for you!! This has to be the best forum on the entire internet. Too bad others don't know about all of you. What a blessing they are missing!!!

By the way, just so you know............. we used some of your great advice in administering our own "punishment".

The lawyer is charging $150 an hour. Keith has been saving his money for months in order to buy a new electric guitar. But we told him that since we are not the ones who did the crime, we should not be the ones who have to pay for the lawyer. So he'll be saving for that guitar for a while longer. Oh well! Next time maybe he'll THINK before he does something like this.

And we've made it perfectly clear to him that he will NOT be hanging out with Nathan or Logan again for a very, very, very long time. Maybe after he's 18. He's not very happy about that. Not happy at all. But we had a long, long talk with him about two things. 1) If this is the kind of thing he is going to do when he hangs with them, then he cannot hang with them and 2) These boys were as involved as Keith was. But they denied it. So Keith had to pay the price for the thing all by himself. They left him out to dry. THAT is not what real friend's do. We told him he needs to aim higher.

Other than that, we figured that spending 3 nights in jail and then being on total house arrest from Monday thru Thursday should probably be sufficient. Hopefully he's learned a huge lesson. Continue to pray for Keith. Pray that God gets ahold of his heart and turns his life around completely.

Margie- I am so glad things have turned out this well for you. I think your talk with Keith and the payment he will have to make will make a lasting impression on him. I am sure right now he is not happy with you right now, but hopefully he gets older he will look back on this lesson as valuable.

Oh, you are sooooooo right! He is definately NOT happy with us right now. But that has never been my biggest worry in life. I'd rather know that we're doing the best we know to do as parents than to be my child's best friend. Someday I pray he understands that. And I pray we're still alive to see it! LOL

This is probably the best way he will learn from his mistake. He will have to wait on something he really wants because of paying the bill himself.

I do hope he realizes that true friends would not have let him take the punishment all by himself. They'd have spoken up about their involvement.

I will continue to pray for Keith.
