Are you talking about Ralph Vincent Reynolds (1913-2002), a former pastor of churches in Ontario and British Columbia, missionary to Jamaica, and twice president of Conqueror's Bible College?

I thought him a grand old man. His grandson, Rev. Dan Sirstad could probably hook you up with a copy of his biography.

I fondly remember him telling us young Bible School kids regarding marriage that we should be like the old grandfather clock that slowly says, "take your time." Avoid being like an alarm clock that hastily says, "get there, get there, get there!"

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Yes, I am on the hunt for the biography of Ralph Vincent Reynolds.

I'll try and find his grandson now that I have his name.

Thanks for the lead

The book is called Upon the Potters Wheel.

Book price is predicated on condition, author, and rarity.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

The family, grandson, did not have access to the biography.

I will wait until I see one on ebay or elsewhere at a reasonable price.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

David Barth and W. M. Scott brought the message of the Apostolic Faith Mission to Sacramento in 1908. There were there holding a revival for a few weeks.

Someone else advertised AFM meetings there in 1907. But I am not sure who was in charge of the meetings.

David Barth ended up as a missionary to China from 1911-1917 and then for a second rounds a few years later. He spent the war years in Pasadena. Afterwards, he retired.

His ministry peers were W.M. Scott, Thomas Anderson and W.W. Fisher.

It takes a lifetime to live, but sometimes only a day to write a biography.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Gilbert E. Farr was a friend of William Francis Manley. The following is a reporters write up of his mission in Denver in 1907.

3/24/1907 (Morning Union, Grass Valley, Ca, p. 6) This city has been the home of some strange religions and some bizarre manifestations of religious belief. The Schlatter incident of 1895 still causes people to talk and wonder, and the Sun worshippers of 2 years ago are not forgotten. But the strangest claim yet made by any body of believers is that of the Christian Assembly church members who say they have been granted the apostolic gift of many tongues, and that they can speak all kinds of languages which they have never before heard.

They assert that a great majority of the six hundred languages in existence today have been used by their members in their little church on Welton street under the leadership of divine inspiration.

They claim that the distinct mark of this power is the fact that no one receiving the gift can use it for any other purpose than purposes of exhortation. Frequently the inspired person speaks in a language totally unknown to himself, they say, and makes an exhortation understood only by someone of a foreign nationality who happens to be in the audience.

Occasionally one of the members will speak in a language unknown to anyone present. As a result of this wonderful power they expect to send abroad missionaries to China and India.

The case regarded as the most remarkable among the believers is that of Miss Mabel Smith, a girl of eighteen, whose home is in Galveston, Texas. To her has been given the power to speak eighteen languages, one for every year of her life, and they think that as she adds years she will acquire languages.

Another notable case is that of Miss Evelyn Schippie, seventeen, altogether in the Chinese language. She has never previously been able to speak this language, and has never heard it spoken.

Miss Mary Botroff, a woman well and favorably known in this city for her charitable work, says that she uses Chinese and Arablic fluently. In a recent address made in a mission meeting she spoke five different languages so that they could be understood by representatives of five different nationalities in the room at the time.

This power has also been granted to the pastor of the church, the Rev. Gilbert E. Farr, and his wife. “There is nothing new in this, “ he says. “We simply believe and have proved conclusively that the power of the apostles reaches down to the present time. We are now living in the gospel age, and everything inaugurated by the apostles in their age holds good in the present. We are not a sect nor a cult. We simply believe in the whole gospel, and in this thing along with all the rest of it.

Mr. Farr furnishes this description of how the gift came: Last August a body of Christian people was holding a camp meeting in this city, and during the meeting, two Christian women came to us from Los Angeles. They said they were going to Jerusalem to preach the gospel in Arabic as God had given them that gift and also the gift of other languages. Many of our members began to seek it for themselves. After the public meetings closed we all went into a separate room and waited for the Lord to do to us as He did to the apostles at Pentecost, when he gave them the gift of languages.

The first manifestation of the presence of the holy ghost was when people began to tremble and fall down and then there came a rushing of great winds. This is just the same thing that happened according to the bible on the day of Pentecost. Very soon several of our members began to speak in different languages and others interpreted what they said. No less than forty people, men, women and children have received this wonderful gift.

As for myself, I cannot tell anything more about my receiving the gift than this: my throat began to swell and I was compelled to remove my cravat. When I opened my mouth under the inspiration of the holy ghost, I began to speak in a foreign language which I had never studied or heard spoken, and I have spoken under this wonderful power many times since.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

5/6/1923 (Stockton Independent, p. 16) An enthusiastic audience listener to Rev. Tatman Friday night in the big tent on California street, as ho spoke on the Christian’s need of the Holy Ghost baptism. Mr. Tatman has been with the Pentecostal movement from tho beginning when seventeen years ago in a mission on Azusa street, Los Angeles, the signs that Jesus said would follow the believers first began to be known In this generation. Jesus said, “These signs shall follow those that believe, they shall cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues’’ Mk. 16:17. In his own vivid language he thundered, “Men came from all over the world to stop it. Long coat tailed preachers, and short coat tailed preachers, and high hat preachers, and preachers of all sorts looked on, and when they could not stop It they started to ridicule by calling us holy rollers, but we fooled them all and rolled right over all opposition. Then they said leave it alone and it will soon blow over. This time they were right for the thing has blown over all the world. This movement is of God, for it is God’s enduement of power to His believing children that they might witness of His might with signs and wonders following.” The speaker was tremendously in earnest and thrilled his audience again and again with unexpected sallies and sudden postures. He must be seen as well as heard and though this is only his second night here, already a large following of people have been attracted I to him and men are saying we | never heard it on this wise before. His subject for tonight is, “The Signs of the Times.”
