Man has punished me for not believing what they say.

Yes. And I should mention (as I have many times before) that we each find our own way. You should keep following your way, if it works for you, gives you peace, meaning for your life, hope, etc.
When I was a believer, it was very spotty. Many would say, looking back, that I "did it wrong", and they are probably right! But the new way I have found works for me. Yet, some would actually say I'm wrong! It's not working for me! Or I'm deceived, or my way will end in destruction, or whatever.

wife and children believers in God? And, do they attend
church anywhere? If they are/do, I'm sure this is causing
strife between you and them? Just wondering.

But...who are they that would say that you 'did it wrong' ? How would they know what was right for you?
While my prayer is that God show Himself mighty on your behalf, I know that you must seek out what makes sense for you.

My wife and one of our four sons are believers. Strife is rare: we rarely talk about it. But yeah, when we do, it can get a bit contentious, which, of course, is why we rarely do.
