Romans 6 is also far beyond what many understand.

Baptism involves a level of understanding that cannot be lowered to that of a sacrament. It has depth. Col 2:11-12 shows this. It is compared to circumcision. Abraham was circumcised, although made righteous beforehand. But would God have accepted Abraham without having been circumcised? What would uncircimcision have shown God in Abraham's life?
These are the points my pastor made yesterday re circumcision and faith...

The discussion here has been most interesting...

Baptism, when relegated to a mere sacrament, becomes discarded in time. Christ's baptism, and insistency with John about it, and Peter's "command" for Cornelius to be baptized, shows us it is far beyond a mere sacrament. The early church mentioned it and mentioned it. But had it been a mere sacrament, it would have been abandoned in the early church just as it has in many circles today.
