and then....come on you can say Danielson..... KNOW
as in the Power of his Ressurection....
Philippians 3:10
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
You really preach a Powerless Christ my friend...
No, you do Revster .... as your heretical paradigm requires giving Christ an assist and re-enacting His Work of the Cross and Resurrection ... rather on relying/trusting/believing wholely that His Work is solely sufficient.
Your doctrine is one of demi-gods and stripping away the work of the Lamb with Pelagianism.
justin, are you suggesting the gospel of john is an epistle? ... Or do you subscribe to the gospel-acts-epistles hermeneutic too, in which historical narrative is the locus of control to interpreting god's word?
I submit that acts was written to a believer too ... Theophilus.
Nor do i find the acts 2:38 pattern alluded to in any of the epistles that sought to set salvational and christological straight in light of heresys that these apostles were seeking to rectify in many of their letters... Such as judaizers, gnostics, etc.
I see this soteriological verse (john 3:16) amplified and reinforced in john's didactic 1st letter and thematic to all of his writings.
Here are 24 other reasons why this type of hermeneutic is dangerous and unsound ...
Belief without action is not faith. Belief without endurance is not salvation.
(Mat 10:22) And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
(Mat 24:13) But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
(Mar 13:13) And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
(Mar 16:16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
(Joh 10:9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
(Act 2:21) And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(Act 15:11) But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
(Rom 8:24) For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
(Rom 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(Rom 10:13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(Eph 2:5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved
(Eph 2:8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(2Th 2:10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
(Tit 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
(1Pe 3:20) Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
(1Pe 3:21) The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
If mere mental assent is all it takes to save then why did this occur? Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Act 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Act 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. Act 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Act 16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. Act 16:27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. Act 16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Act 16:29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, Act 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Act 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. Act 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. Act 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Question of the day: How come the one or two line responses get so much attention that turns into a "tit for tat" clash of the arrogances that contains no real substance while it seems some look the other way from post like this with scripture and potential discussion ?

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
Ah, another member of the clergy resting on the DWW's tried and untrue bromide that this verse means what he claims:
I worry that some of you can't break down a simple verse like this but are entrusted with a flock of God's people.
1. The context deals with believing that there is ONE GOD.
" Thou believest that there is one God;"
2. Devils, or demons, and Satan, himself, have been privy to this commonly accepted theological fact having once resided in Glory. Heck, Trinitarians believe this to the despair of Randy's ilk!
3. Somehow the knowledge that God is .... equates to the scores of Scripture (200 plus regarding faith and 120 plus dealing with faithfulness) that deal with biblical faith .... relying/trusting/believing on God for salvation.
Once again, the dishonesty of the salvation by works crowd is rueful.

Well, actually, that post is just scripture -- no commentary to respond to.

I remember in my UPC days as a youngster, that I saw someone holding a sign in the end zone of a football game that said, "John 3:16". I'd never heard anyone talk about it before.
Does anybody hold up those signs, anymore? I don't watch football much, but it's been a long time since I've seen one. (And I don't think I've ever seen an "Acts 2:38" sign! )
