I've always enjoyed American Idol. I've only missed one or two shows. But I've never really liked any of the singers enough to buy their stuff. Elliot Yamin was great and Danny Gokey is really good. But other than that......naaaa. Christina Christian from the first year sang "Ain't No Sunshine" like I've never heard.
But Adam Lambert made me jump off the couch. Literally. That first night when he sang "Satisfaction", (and I can't stand Jagger), I yelled at the ending. I jumped off the couch like Tiger Woods had just sunk a putt to win a major. I've never heard anything like that. He was way beyond good. I bought everything he did from iTunes.
I'm saying that to say, I'll buy anything he records. But I'll admit, I'm a little disappointed in that album cover. I have no problem with his gay issues. That's his business. I just appreciate the talent. And I had no problem with the fingernail polish and the makeup. I didn't think that had anything to do with him being gay. There are a lot of metalheads that do that.
But that cover is a bit much. Why? I guess it just makes me a little uncomfortable and it's just a reminder that if I'm serious about reaching people, I still get a little religious occasionally. On the other hand, it's his life, his album, and I just appreciate his talent.
For those of you that are really bothered by his "gayness" and his appearance.....do we REALLY want to start investigating the personal lives, character, and integrity of every recording artist? Look out if you do. It's going to GREATLY reduce the potential field of people you can listen to.....and that includes the Christian Music industry....BIG TIME!!!
Be careful or there will only be 3 or 4 people you can listen to!!!
