The joke was in very poor taste. I am surprised and glad that most commentators have said it was out of line and defended S. Palin for calling DL out on it.
Would be nice but in apologizing he just took the air out of a lawsuit IMHO!

I haven't heard a peep from A-Rod. Maybe he was flattered by the mention?

Agreed!

Look, I think he lied about researching the girl's age--that was lame. But he's not an idiot, at least, not in the sense of being self-destructive. There are certain lines you just don't cross, and I agree with Renda--he just read the joke, without knowing the 14 year old was in town, instead of Bristol.

Do you think he personally sits down and writes his own material every day? He probably gives it a quick scan after it's handed to him, and goes with it!

Negligent and crass he is, but stupid and a perverted pedophile?--I don't think so. And he did backtrack. So I think it's worth getting over. If Bristol's mother can get over it, you can, too.
I'll have to get back with you, Abby. My daughter is giving me a Bible lesson on I Cor 11 over the phone and she said if I don't listen she will hang up!

You don't have to get back with me. I wouldn't mind having the last word--for once.

Re: Palin Furious At Letterman.

Again ... it's over, he apologized ... get over it!

Like MB stated earlier - DL is not known for gutter humor. He's extremely partisan, but he's not what Palin's tried to paint him as ... some old pervert.

It was a mistake, he apologized, it's done and over with ... move on.

I mentioned that on the first page. A-rod is most likely content to keep a low profile and just play baseball these days. He's had enough controversy himself to last awhile.

Agreed!!! - He lied and that he's not an idiot.

He lied - I also believe he lied about checking her age, I also believe he lied in who he was referring to. He said, "Her daughter". He could have said, "Her oldest daughter".

He's not an idiot - I also agree with that. He has enough experience to know that he should be careful and because he has to check and approve his script. He keeps up with the news. That is how he is good at his job. Therefore, he would have known that Bristol wasn't with the Palins - it was Willow.

THAT is WHY the storm was still brewing and WHY - ONE WEEK LATER - he knows he has to own up to it, ante up and try to get out of it. They are very professional at what they do and know just how to skirt the issue enough to get the cat off the hot tin roof - that's showbiz, baby!

He has to read his script ahead of time to be familiar with it and also to approve of it. Logically, he isn't going to run a show very smooth if he runs over the script right before the show. He has to be comfortable with it and not just read a teleprompter.

Do YOU think he sits at his desk with his feet up all day? No, he doesn't. They knock around ideas and sometimes he improvises. That is his talent.

The President has writers for his speeches as well. He goes over the speeches and changes the things he wants changed and keeps the wording he agrees with. Not much different than a night show.

And, NO, I have never and will never watch Letterman. He's a repulsive piece of work. I've seen enough news clips to gather that much.

His comments were in the "perverted pedophile" corner. Guilt by association. We have enough trash going on against young women in this country for Letterman to jump on the bandwagon. Bad form, Letterman - you pervert! He must be related to Snoop Dog! The brutha from anutha mutha!

PO, you have every right to be distrustful of DL, he is either senile, stupid, or a sleazebag!
Either, or, he let the Watermelon go "SPLAT!"

He's all of the above!!

Seriously, he's just a part of Hollywood with no conscience or scruples. That's all that is - they DO NOT care!

I watched a news clip of a liberal "women" reporter questioning - "Why in the world would Palin be mad that she was called a "slut". I've been called a "slut" and it doesn't bother me."

I need an "airhead" Smilee right about now!

Ron,
I'm going to run and throw a steak on the grill! Viva la BBQ! Laters!
