I am reading this book right now! It is a great book and from a very open minded point of view. Another good one to read (from an agnostic point of view) is Case for Christ.
Both books show that no matter how you try to explain away God/Jesus, it is just impossible to do in the light of history and the effect Jesus has had on the world, and continues to have to this day.
Yes, the effect is indisputable.

The kids are a little old for that kind of thing. We did buy some candy, though. And we went out for dinner. Nobody felt like cooking.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I've read one of his books, Is God to Blame, and thought it was much less lame than a lot of Christian books. From me, that's pretty high praise!
